Random Morning Thoughts
I know you guys like the Daily Double. Plan for it tomorrow: Powder riding in the morning and wind sports in the afternoon. You can do it! Sadly, I’m working, so I cannot.
Hood 2 River Relay
The Hood 2 River Relay is a one-day event on May 31st. This fun and all-inclusive event is designed for almost any level of skill and fitness, yet competitive enough for the hardcore athlete where participants compete in teams, pairs, or individuals to race from the high slopes of Mt. Hood down to the mighty Columbia River. There will be six Legs that consist of; Alpine ski, nordic ski, mountain bike, road bike, road run, boating (kayak/canoe/SUP) and a 500 meter sprint to the finish line after boating. Open to individuals and teams. Visit their website for more information. And Pole-Pedal-Paddle, eat your heart out. You got nothin’ on the Hood 2 River!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Come on guys. I only have 20 people signed up for The Last Powder Day of the Season on Sunday. I created a Facebook event. Please join, and please share with friends! You’re all invited!
Today starts off sunny on Mt. Hood. Clouds move in midday and snow starts by 5pm. The snow level will be 1500 this morning, rising to 3500′ this afternoon. We’ll see .4-.6” water value (WV) tonight, for 4-6” of new. Wind will be NW 15 early, SW 20 midday and SW 25 in the afternoon.
Tomorrow looks powdery. The snow level will be around 2500′ all day. We’ll see .4-.7” WV during the day, for 4-8” of new snow, becoming less intense after 5pm, when sunbreaks will start happening. Wind will be W 35 early, 25 mid morning and WNW 30 in the afternoon.
Monday looks clear and sunny with light wind. And I guess that’s probably the end of the official Mt. Hood forecast, unless there’s weather worth noting, in which case I guess I’ll forecast.
Gorge Wind
Today starts off with gradients at .08 and .06, and that’ll be enough for decent wind once the sun comes up: Expect 17-21 near Hood River with 23-27 from Mosier to Maryhill this morning. As the next weather system approaches midday, we’ll see the wind drop to gusty 15-18 through the whole Gorge.
Tomorrow looks awesome once the weather system moves through and high pressure starts building off the coast. Expect steady 26-30+ from Mosier to Arlington, strongest from Lyle to Maryhill mid-afternoon.
Monday starts with W 10-15 and then turns to E 5-10 in the afternoon (can you say “road biking”?). Tuesday and Wednesday bring east wind.
Gorge Weather
We’ll start off partly cloudy today, with high clouds and mid clouds and low clouds moving in this afternoon as the next weather system hits. Rain starts by 5pm. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and mid 50’s this afternoon. I’m tired of talking about the wind in the weather section. If it’s okay with you, the wind can be found in the wind section. =) Anyway, Sunday looks showery with rainbows. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and low 50’s in the afternoon. Monday looks sunny. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and low 60’s in the afternoon. We’ll see temps in the mid 70’s (hell yeah!) for the rest of the week.
Road and Mountain Biking
Judging by Strava, Syncline was awesome yesterday – everyone was over there riding it. Now, I have no information on Post or Whoopdee or Hospital, but I suspect the latter two are drier than the former one.

River Levels
The Hood is at 5.5′, the Klickitat is at 2480 cfs, and the White Salmon is at 4.2’ish.

Obviously the most important event this week is The Last Powder Day of the Season, happening Sunday at Mt. Hood Meadows. Today’s the Pond Skim. Tomorrow at Timberline it’s the Airblaster Board Games, some sort of rad event that isn’t very clear from T-Line’s website.
In other news, there’s a birding festival at Conboy Wildlife Refuge in Trout Lake today t Speaking of, I saw the world’s biggest Osprey in the snag across the freeway yesterday. It was bigger than a bald eagle. Mutant Osprey. But you don’t care about the Osprey. You want events.
In events today, it’s the annual weeding party at the Waterfront Park in Hood River at 9am. There’s a cleanup on the Sandy River, meeting at Lewis and Clark park at 8:30. The cherry Festival in The Dalles has the Teddy Bear parade and a poker run for motorcyclists today. Today’s also the Bear Springs Trap short track mountain bike race. Tomorrow’s the XC race. In the snow. Yuck. Brrr. Windance has a swap meet tomorrow.
