It’s the 1st annual Winter Pledge Drive!

Thank you for using this forecast! It’s free to use, but it’s not free for me to write. I put about an hour a day into creating a (hopefully) accurate forecast, and I pay for the hosting on this website. If you use this forecast to pick the good days on the hill or on the river, if you find this report saves you gas money or time, please make a donation during pledge drive month! I’m just one gal with other jobs writing this for you! Your generosity keeps this going for everyone. I also send an email version of this forecast. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the pledge drive. Here’s how this works. If I get donations totally $15 or more today, I post a forecast tomorrow. To make this fair, I’ll try to update the color of the dot midday (a girl’s gotta work, you know.)

Today’s forecast status: As of Sunday, 6:30am.

Good morning,

Here I am up on Mt. Hood, and it’s a gorgeous bluebird morning with a stunning cap cloud on the mountain. That cap cloud means there’s weather coming in, so batten down the hatches for… well, for not much of a storm.

It’ll be above freezing on Mt. Hood this morning, but the temp will drop quickly today. The free air freezing level will be 6500′ early, 2500′ at 10am, 1500′ at 1pm and 1000′ at 4pm. Clear sky this morning gives way to clouds and flurries by noon, with light snow falling – maybe .1-.2” water value (WV) between noon and 4am Sunday. Wind today will be W 20 early, SW 25 mid-morning, W 30-35 at 1pm and WNW 30 at 4pm. Enjoy the slow lift rides after 4pm.

Tomorrow looks partly cloudy on Mt. Hood, with some orographic snow flurries possible, mostly in the morning. The snow level will be around 500′. No accumulation. Wind will be WNW 30 early, NW 20-25 at 10am and NW 15-20 at 4pm.

Monday looks cold and cloudy on Mt. Hood, with light flurries. The snow level will be at the surface in the morning, rising to 500′ midday. Wind will be SW 10-15 early, 15-20 midday and 10-15 in the evening.

Tuesday looks a lot like Monday, with light flurries, low snow level, and light SW wind.

The next chance for significant snowfall is next weekend, but that’s a long ways out to be forecasting.

Gorge weather today starts off clear, becoming cloudy in the afternoon. Wind will be light east this morning, becoming gusty west at 25-29 this afternoon. Temps will rise to the low 40’s. We might see a few sprinkles after noon. Tomorrow looks clear in the gorge, with west wind at 26-30 in the Corridor and Near East. Monday looks cloudy and cold in the Gorge, with a chance of a few snow flurries, most likely in Parkdale and Odell, as afternoon temps will rise into the low 40’s near the river. The wind Monday will be E 15-18.

Have an awesome day today!

Good morning,

I just stepped outside my house for a moment, expecting to see cloudy sky above. Instead, it’s clear in the Gorge this morning, which bodes well for a gorgeous, sunny day today. You already know what I’m going to say, don’t you? It’s a bike riding day! A certain HRATS trail fairy raked all of Mitchell Ridge yesterday, so if you can stomach the Seven Streams clearcut and the mess that’s been made of Spaghetti Factory, there’s a perfectly buffed downhill waiting for you. If not, well, Syncline should be perfect, as it’s an east wind day and should be nearly calm at Syncline.

Gorge weather for the next few days looks mellow: Cold weather this morning gives way to upper 40’s and sunshine this afternoon. Tomorrow starts off cold, becoming cloudy and 40-ish midday with a chance of a few sprinkles after 10am. Sunday looks clear and chilly, with Gorge temps in the upper 30’s. Monday starts off below freezing, with high clouds. The temp will rise to 40 or so Monday afternoon. In other words, it’s going to be a great stretch of cycling weather!

On Mt. Hood, mellow weather continues. Today will be sunny. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be around 9000′. Wind will be light and variable in the morning, rising to SW 10-20 in the afternoon.

Saturday starts of clear, quickly becoming cloudy. The snow level will be at 7000′ early, plummeting to 2000′ by 10am and 1000′ by 4pm. Light snow will fall on Mt. Hood starting around 10am. Approximately .1-.3” water value (WV) falls by 4pm, for 1-3” (likely the lower end of that) of new snow. Another .1” WV or less falls overnight, for another inch, max. We should get just enough snow out of this system to make groomed runs really nice on Sunday. Wind Saturday will be SW 20-25 early, WSW 30-35 by 10am and W 30-35 in the afternoon and evening.

Sunday looks partly cloudy, with orographic snow flurries keeping the weather interesting. The snow level will be 500′, but there won’t be any significant accumulation. Wind Sunday will be NW 25-30 early, NW 20 mid-morning and NW 15 in the afternoon.

Monday starts cold with high clouds. The FAF will be at the surface, rising to 500′ in the afternoon. Snow flurries start late in the evening, with no significant accumulation overnight. Wind will be SW 15 all day.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday bring sub-freezing weather to Mt. Hood with snow accumulations in the 1-3” range each day.

Have an awesome day today!
