3/18 Mt. Hood snow/rain, Gorge wind (lots) and weather and not much else…

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

I hope y’all made it up to the mountain for powder yesterday. Looks like we should see more powder later this week, even if it is going to start out as something a lot more wet than powder…

In the Gorge today, expect partly cloudy to clear sky this morning and high clouds later with temps in the low 40’s early and upper 40’s in the afternoon. Wind will be W 15-18 this morning, picking up to gusty 24-28 this afternoon, likely steadiest at Stevenson, and filling in all the way to Arlington later.

Tuesday will probably have high clouds, but no precip until the evening, when it will rain. Temps will be in the mid-30’s early and near 50 in the afternoon. Wind will be E 30+. Wednesday sees temps in the upper 40’s early and low 50’s in the afternoon with rain in the central Gorge after 11am and sun out east. Wind will build to a relatively steady W 30-40 east of Mosier in the afternoon.

The Mt. Hood forecast for today is mostly sunny, with a few orographic snow flurries during the morning hours. High clouds move in late in the afternoon. The snow level will be 1000′ early and 2000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be W 25-30 all day. No accumulation.

Tuesday starts with high clouds, with a few snow flurries or freezing rain before 5pm. After 5pm, the heavens open up with (most likely) rain. The snow level will be 2000′ early, 6000′ at 5pm and 7000′ overnight. We’ll get .7” water value overnight. Blech. Wind will be SW 15 early, S 20 midday, SW 30 in the afternoon and SW 50 overnight.

The snow level drops on Wednesday, starting at 6000′ at 5am, falling to 3000′ by 11am and 2000′ by 2pm. So, we’ll see a switch from rain to snow mid-morning, with .7” WV giving us 4-6” of new by 5pm, followed by another .7” WV overnight, for 6-8” of new snow. Wind Wednesday will be SW 60 early, SW 45 mid-morning and WSW 40 in the afternoon.

At this point, Thursday looks clear and cold and dry, Friday looks snowy, and the weekend looks warm and probably dry.

Have an awesome day today!

Good morning,

Looks like a great day to go skiing today, if you’re a fan of storm skiing. Sadly, we’ve now lost the mountain bike trails – they’re muddy as can be. Break out the skis, board or road bike for the next week, because it’s going to stay wet.

In Gorge weather today, we’ll see rain showers through late morning, with partly cloudy sky all day. Wind will be W 28-32+ east of Mosier this morning, fading to 25-29 in the afternoon. Under the clouds in Cascade Locks and Hood River, expect gusty 21-24. Temps will be in the upper 30’s this morning and upper 40’s in the afternoon. Yes, it’s snowing in Odell and Parkdale this morning.

Tomorrow looks partly cloudy or clear in the morning with high clouds in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid-30’s early and near 50 in the afternoon. Wind will be W 20-23 early, rising to gusty 25-29 in the afternoon. Tuesday looks cloudy, with rain moving in during the afternoon. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and upper 40’s in the afternoon.

It’s a snowy one on Mt. Hood. We’ll see orographic flurries continue through the afternoon, with the snow level at 1000′. Total accumulation today will be .1-.3” water value (WV), for 1-3” of new. Wind will be WNW 40 until early afternoon, when it will drop to 30mph.

Tomorrow sees a few orographic flurries through noon, with no accumulation. There will be plenty of sun on the slopes for Monday! The snow level will be 500′ early and 1500′ in the afternoon. Wind will be WNW 30 in the morning, 25 midday and 10-15 in the afternoon.

Tuesday will be cloudy with a warming trend: the snow level starts at 2500′ and rises to 5500′ by 2pm and 6000′ at 8pm. Precip starts around 2pm, with a mix of rain and snow. We’ll see .5” water value (WV) by 5pm, followed by another .5-1.0” overnight. That first .5” will fall as sloppy rain/snow mix. However, the freezing level will fall overnight, for 4-7” of new snow by Wednesday morning. Wind will be SW 15 early and SW 40 in by 2pm, holding overnight.

By Wednesday morning, the snow level will be at 2500′, falling to 1000′ by 11am. We’ll get another .5” WV by 5pm, followed by another .5” by Thursday morning. Wind will be WSW 50+ in the morning, dropping to WSW 45 mid-morning.

Have an awesome day today!
