Good morning!

Mountain Weather Forecast

Today looks clear, cold and calm, with the free air freezing level slowly rising to 5000′ by 7pm. Winds will be light and variable today.

Tomorrow looks mostly clear, with a few high clouds. The free air freezing level will be at 6000′ by 7am, rising to 7000′ by 10pm. Winds will be variable in the 5-10mph range.

Friday starts off clear, with the FAF at 7000′ early, rising to 8000′ by 1pm when a few clouds start moving in. Winds will be SW 15-20 early, rising to SW 30-40 by 1pm, rising further to SW 40-50 by midnight.

The snow level on Saturday is still up in the air, so to speak. One model shows 5500′-6000′ early, and one shows 4500-5000′ early. Precip starts around 10am, with 1-1.5″ total falling by Sunday morning. At this point, I think we’ll start with a mix of rain and snow at 5500′, possibly freezing rain early, becoming all snow by midday. Winds will be strong, but fortunately they’ll be SW, protecting Meadows from the worst of the storm. We’ll see SW 40-50 early, rising to SW 45-55 middday, holding through the evening. Cross your fingers that temperatures hold at freezing.

By Sunday morning, the snow level will be at 4500′-5000′, but most of the precipitation will be done by then. We’ll have light snow flurries during the day Sunday, with W winds in the 15-20 range.

Have a great day today!

Good morning!

Mountain Weather Forecast

Yesterday was ridiculously fun on the mountain. It was blowing 50-70mph, making for exciting lift rides and fresh tracks every run.

Today looks like another ridiculously fun day, minus the extreme weather. Cloudy skies and orographic snow showers this morning give way to partly cloudy skies and sunbreaks this afternoon, with the snow level / free air freezing level around 1500-2000’. Winds today will be light and variable. Total snow accumulation will be less than 1” or so.

Tomorrow looks sunny, dry and cool, with temps below freezing on the slopes during the day. Winds will be N 10-15 in the morning, switching to W 10-15 late in the day. The freezing level will slowly rise during the day, topping out around 6000’ overnight.

Thursday looks sunny, warm and dry, with the free air freezing level around 7000’. Winds will be light, out of the west at 5-10mph.

Friday starts off sunny and warm, with light SW wind. Winds increase as a cold front approaches, rising to SW 30-40 by 4pm. SW isn’t that much trouble for the lifts, so we should be all right Friday evening. The freezing level will be at 7000’ Friday, but will start dropping by 4pm.

At this point, it looks like the front will hit Saturday morning, long after freezing levels have dropped below 5000’. If the forecast holds, we’ll see 8-12” of snow during the day Saturday. Current model runs show wind speeds under 40mph, so the skiing should be pretty good, especially in the afternoon and evening. Sunday should be epic.

After Saturday, we’re back into a cold, snowy cycle, with the jet stream bringing us lots of powder!

Hooray!!!

Have a great day today!
