Thank you again to all of you who sent me all those birthday cards. I read them out loud with a friend yesterday, and it was an incredibly powerful and transformative experience. Thank you.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

No snow or precip of any type in the extended forecast. The mountain will be sunny through Thursday, at least. The FAF today will be 10,000′ with temps at 5000′ rising to the upper 40’s. Wind will be light NW. Tomorrow sees the FAF at 12,000′ with temps at 5000′ around 50 degrees. Wind will be light W/NW. Thursday sees the FAF at 12,000′ with temps at 5000′ around 60 degrees with light wind.

Gorge Weather

Ah man. I have to go outside and look this morning. Stand by. Yep. It’s cloudy. But it’s not that cold. I didn’t freeze my tits off. Not even close. So. It’s cloudy and mild. 44 degrees to be exact. Models say we’re going to 50 degrees today. And that it’ll clear. I doubt that it’ll clear. I expect us to remain at least partly cloudy. Tomorrow starts in the upper 30’s, rising to the mid-40’s, with an inversion cloud. Thursday looks similar.

Gorge Wind Forecast

I really tried to go windsurfing. I got the gear in the car, and then the wind died. Today starts with a light west gradient, but it switches to east in afternoon with easterlies rising to 15-18mph. Wednesday looks light. Thursday brings east wind at 26-30.

Road and Mountain Biking

If it’s as warm today as they’re predicting, it’s going to be a great day for a road ride. Or… maybe, just maybe, maybe? Syncline dried out in the wind yesterday? Maybe? Maybe give it a day. But I bet Eagle Caves in The Dalles is rideable.

Events – email me if I’ve missed any outdoor-related events

Tonight at 5:30pm, you can play pickup rugby at Hood River’s Waterfront Park. Or you could go to the Hood River Area Trail Stewards’ monthly BOD meeting – they are looking for a treasurer, so please show up if you are interested in giving back to your local trails by doing a bit of volunteer work. At 6:15 tonight, Shortt Supply hosts a talk for women on ways to keep workouts and food interesting. There will be wine, snacks and prizes at this event, and there won’t be any boys. From 5pm-9pm tonight, you can enjoy a hunk of Prime Rib at Cebu for $12, and after that, you can play Kayak Polo at the Hood River pool ($8/session or $50/season).

Have an awesome day today!

I feel a nice bike ride coming on today. Not sure what kind, but a bike ride after a long weekend of work sounds great!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

The Mt. Hood snow is done for a while. The forecast now returns to its regularly scheduled boring-you-to-tears programming. Expect freezing rain and rain this morning with the freezing level around 3000′. Total precip will be .1-.2” water value. As the sky clears this afternoon, the freezing level will rise to 8000′ this afternoon/evening. Wind will be WNW 30ish pretty much all day.

Tomorrow brings clear sky. The free air freezing level (FAF) rises to 10,000′ by 4am, holding all day, with 5000′ temps in the upper 40’s early and low 50’s in the afternoon. Wind tomorrow will be W 20 early, rising to WNW 30 in the afternoon.

Wednesday looks clear and warm on Mt. Hood, with the FAF around 11,000′ and temps at 5000′ nearing 50 degrees. Wind will be W 20-30. Thursday looks even warmer, with the FAF at 12,000 and temps at 5000′ around 55 degrees.

There is no precip in the extended GFS run at this time.

Gorge Weather

It’s 49 degrees at my house this morning, and that’s a nice start to the day. The temp should hold right around there all day, with decreasing clouds this afternoon. The next couple of days bring us a temperature inversion, and with the ground so wet, we should see inversion clouds. However, the models seem to think we won’t. I dunno. I tend to err on the side of gloom, so I think it’ll be cloudy, with temps in the upper 30’s in the morning and mid-40’s in the afternoon with light wind both Tuesday and Wednesday. But I could be totally wrong, and that would be nice.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Hope y’all had fun on the river in the westerlies this weekend. It’s still blowing hard this morning, with .16/.12 to start the day. The wind will keep blowing for much of the day, driven by a building offshore high. Expect 28-32 east of Mosier this morning, fading a bit to 24-28 this afternoon, but possibly filling in near Hood River too.

Tuesday and Wednesday look light. East wind kicks in at Steven’s Locks and Rooster’s Rocks at 26-30 on Thursday.

Road and Mountain Biking

I am crossing my fingers that the wind is drying out Syncline as I write this. If not, well, the next couple of days will be nice for road riding, with temps in the 40’s and light wind.
