Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Looks like we are back into a dry pattern for the next week or so, with just a few clouds to detract from the boredom of talking about clear-sky-50-degrees.
Today looks clear to start, but high clouds move in this afternoon. Temps on the hill will be in the mid to upper 40’s at 5000′ with the free air freezing level (FAF) at 12,000′. Wind will be SW 15.
We may see some lingering clouds tomorrow. The FAF will be 11,000′ early, dropping to 10,000′ midday. Temps at 5000′ will be in the upper 40’s early, dropping to the upper 30’s or low 40’s in the afternoon. Wind will be SW 15 early, becoming W 15 in the afternoon.
Monday looks clear and sunny with the FAF around 10,000. Temps at 5000′ will be in the upper 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon with light NW wind.
We might see some clouds on Wednesday.
Coming up Monday, it’s Rotary Night at Meadows. At this point, it looks like Rotary Night will be clear and calm. It’s probably safe to buy a ticket in advance for $15. This supports a great cause – scholarships for awesome Gorge kids – so buy a ticket even if you aren’t going.
Gorge Weather
Morning weather check: cold, but not that cold, and cloudy, really cloudy. Low clouds. Guess that means we start off with the inversion cloud today. It should burn off again this afternoon. Speaking of, I watched the temp climb from 32 degrees to 40 degrees yesterday afternoon as the inversion clouds broke.
The temp in the Gorge today will be in the mid-30’s early, rising to near 40 in the afternoon with an easterly breeze. Tomorrow looks just below freezing early, rising to the low-40’s in the afternoon. We’ll see inversion gloom early and partly cloudy, high overcast sky in the afternoon. Monday looks very similar.
Gorge Wind Forecast
It’s a bit winder than I expected this morning, as a .19 gradient drives near-nuclear easterlies: 22 at Steven’s Locks (that’ll increase to 26-30) and 49 at Rooster Rock. The wind will fade to 24-28 this afternoon. Tomorrow starts with east wind at 15-18, fading to light wind in the afternoon. As inland high pressure builds on Monday, we’ll see east wind pick up to 26-30. Same on Tuesday.
Road and Mountain Biking
I got all dressed up to do a road ride yesterday afternoon, but the east wind deterred me. It was so cold! I went running on the Gorge 400 instead. You will likely find some nice road riding this morning before the central Gorge east wind fills in. As for biking, Post and Gorge 400 are your best bets, as Syncline will likely still be freeze-thaw.

The biggest news today is that Skibowl is opening the Multorpor lift. Hooray for Skibowl! Today is the Cold Lap cyclocross ride at Dirty Fingers at 3pm. Also today at 3, there’s a rail jam at Meadows. Dirty Fingers has a football party going on tomorrow. Go Seahawks!
