4/26 Mt. Hood snow, Gorge wind, and Hood River area events

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – despite rumors to the contrary, nobody pays me to write this and post it. This forecast started as a way for me to find better windsurfing conditions. It morphed into a way for me to find better skiing in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you (almost) every day. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Good morning,

Just three more days of this 4am stuff. Then, sadly for you, I will sleep in and your forecast will come later. But I will be more rested, and possibly more entertaining. Speaking of entertaining, mark your calendars for Interesting on May 4th. Lots of 3 minute talks by cool people. Think of it as Ted talks for the ADD crowd. You’ll love it, I promise. Mosier School. 2 shows: 2pm and 7pm.

In weather news, it’s sunny again. Hooray. It’ll be in the low 50’s this morning and mid 70’s this afternoon with west wind picking up to 21-24 from Stevenson to The Dalles today. Tomorrow sees sunshine with low clouds in the western Gorge. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and upper 60’s late. Wind starts at W 15-28 near Hood River, rising to 28-32 from Hood River all the way to Arlington in the afternoon. Strongest and steadiest wind should be from Doug’s to Arlington.

Sunday sees low clouds. Temps will be in the mid 40’s ealry and mid 60’s late. Wind will rise to W 23-26 east of Hood River. If the forecast for Monday holds, we’ll see west wind at 30+ east of Hood River.

In biking news this week, the Deschutes River Time Trial Festival is Saturday and Sunday, with three races over two days. This weekend is also the Bear Springs Trap mountain bike race. In group ride news, on Saturday, the hammerhead bike racers meet at 8am at Ground Coffee for a fast-paced ride, and on Sunday, the Columbia Gorge Tri Club meets at 10 Speed at 13th and State for a 100 mile, moderate pace ride.

If you’re still thinking skiing, you have five days left. It was hot on the hill yesterday, and the snow was sticky, but maybe today will be better? Sounds like Patrol is all over opening Superbowl today. You’ll want to get it right off the bat before it gets sticky. Saturday is the Pond Skim at Meadows.

In mountain weather news, the freezing level (FAF) will be 12,000′ today under clear sky with light and variable wind early picking up to W 20-25 in the afternoon. Tomorrow sees sunshine early and high clouds in the afternoon, with the FAF at 12,000′ with W wind at 25-30 early and W 40 in the afternoon. Sunday looks partly cloudy with the FAF at 7000′ early and 6000′ late, with WNW wind at 20-30 early and 25-35 in the afternoon. Monday looks rainy on Mt. Hood, with the FAF at 7500′ early, dropping to 3500′ at 11am, with W wind at 50-55.

Have an awesome day today!

Good morning,

It’s yet another beautiful day in the Gorge today. We’ll see a few low clouds in the western Gorge, but other than that, it’s going to be sunny. For wind, we’ll start with westerlies at 5-10 or maybe 10-15, but this whole marine push/incoming system has been delay. So much for our big day – we’ll see gusty 23-26 through the whole Gorge late this afternoon. No big nuker day. Temps today will be in the mid 40’s early and low 70’s this afternoon.

Tomorrow starts with light west wind, less than 10 mph, building to west at 18-23 in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and low 70’s late. On Saturday and Sunday, we’ll see westerlies in the mid-twenties. Temps on Saturday will be in the low 50’s early and upper 60’s late. Next chance of frost is Monday night…

Coming up tonight, at 5:30, Dirty Fingers hosts the Post and Pint mountain bike ride. Complete the 2 hour ride and you’ll earn a free pint of beer. In trail news, it’s starting to get a little dusty, so get out and get it now. If you want to build trails, there are two work parties coming up: The Spokes Club is at the White Salmon bike park at 9am on Saturday and WTA has work parties at Syncline both Saturday and Sunday at 8:30. Next chance of trail-improving rain: Monday.
