I’ve taken the last week off from the forecast, but the weekend is coming up, and you’re probably wondering what’s going on. It looks like we’ll have nice weather, or as nice as you can expect for mid-October.

If you’re looking for wind, there’s some out there this morning. Despite the lack of strong gradient (it’s at .09), it’s blowing 34 at Rooster, but only 9 at Stevenson. The east wind will switch to west wind in the 10-13 range late today. Tomorrow brings light wind in the morning and 10-15 out of the west in the afternoon.

High pressure off the coast on Sunday gives us 17-21 for much of the day from Stevenson to Hood River, and then as a front swings by to the north in the afternoon, Stevenson and the eastern Gorge pick up to 22-25. Next chance for super-strong wind is on Tuesday in the form of easterlies.

For you mountain bikers, there’s a Post Canyon work party tomorrow, Saturday, from 9am-noon. Meet at Family Man. We’ll be working on Family Man, the pumptrack, and possibly Bad Motor Scooter (#158). Coming up next weekend, it’s Post Canyon Shuttle Day, a fundraiser for the trailbuilding fund. $35 gets you all-day shuttles (9am-4pm) and a delicious lunch. Even if you don’t want to shuttle, consider kicking down the cash if you ride Post a lot, because those trails come out of trailbuilding funds, not government dollars.

Speaking of government dollars, if you want to say whatever you want to say, October 15th is a worldwide day of protest. There will be a big march in whatever big city you’re near. If that’s your thing, don’t miss it.

Have an awesome day today!

This is the last weekend of the radio recreation report for the year, so that means Temira will probably have to take some time off soon. Yay! But don’t worry. It won’t be long and then you’ll be getting your daily snow forecast. The wind is looking light, with not much wind today and 10-15 mph west wind tomorrow through the whole Gorge. If you’re a windsurfer who uses Doug’s Beach, go help out with the CGWA work party from 9 to noon today.

Access to super cheap gear including Trew, Zeal, Sierra Designs, and many more.

Also today, and tomorrow, swing by the Gorge Discovery Center in The Dalles for Gorge Community Days from 10-4 with an auction, music, and all sorts of events.

Coming up for the rest of the month, before ski season takes over, there are ski movies galore. The first, the Powderwhores movie Breaking Trail, plays at Dog River on the 12th.

If you’re wondering about ski season, the latest forecast calls for somewhere between a weak La Nina and a strong La Nina. A weak one gives us around 450” snow on average and a strong one gives us over 600” of snow. Either way, it’s looking like it’s going to be a good ski year on the hill and a wet year in the valley, so a ski pass is a good idea. Meadows photo day is October 30th at the Hood River Inn.

Have an awesome day today!
