Random Morning Thoughts
Today is your last day to not sweat like … well… like me riding the Post n’ Pint on a muggy evening. Speaking of… I never told you guys about last week’s ride. It was amazing. We left the shop in fading light under black sky. The thunder and lightning started a few minutes in, but the downpour held off until we returned to the shop. Riding through the woods, there was thunder and lightning every thirty seconds or so. Very cool.
Where was I? Oh, yes. It’s going to be in the low 80’s today and 90+ for the rest of the week, so enjoy today’s pleasant weather.
Wind forecast
Anyway…back to today’s weather… Today starts with clouds in Portland and a .07 gradient across the Cascades with glassy conditions on the river. UW hit refresh on the 4/3 model in the middle of the night again, which makes it hard to give a scientific read on this, but the 4k insists the gradient will disappear very quickly, leaving us with glassy conditions all day. I don’t like that… too many clouds in Portland. Let’s compromise and call it 12-15 near Hood River by mid-morning, fading as the clouds burn off in Portland and temps equalize across the Cascades.
We’ll see east wind tomorrow at 15-18 and east wind on Wednesday at 22-25. The coast looks good today, with 20-25 at the north coast and 25-30 central with 4′ @10 today. Tomorrow will be gustier out there, with NNE wind at 15-20 north and 20-25 central with 4′ @9.

Dirt News
In bike news, there’s still plenty of good dirt out there from the rain a few days ago. And if you’re shopping for bikes, mark your calendar for Thursday at Dirty Fingers for free Kona Bikes demos.
Speaking of bikes, it’s bike ride night, with the Ride Around the Gorge and the Booze cruise. You’ll have to check Facebook for the details on the first, but the Booze Cruise meets at Mountain View at 6:30 for a ride to Mosier and back. Tomorrow night brings you the weekly triathlon practice at Mayer Park with the Columbia Gorge Triathlon club folks.

Coming up next weekend, there are celebrations in Cascade Locks for the opening of the new section of the Historic Columbia River Highway Trail. Up on Mt. Hood on Saturday, Ranger Jim has a work party to finish the SuperConnector. Plan on meeting at Dirty Fingers at 8:30 or Little John at 9am. On Sunday, it’s the Cascade to Crown Bike Ride, the Twin Tunnels running race benefiting the Mosier School (3k-5k-10k), and the Bridge of the Gods Walk.
