It’s a very long weekend of work for me…

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

The Mt. Hood snow forecast contains drizzle this morning, or maybe just falling mist. Either way, it’s not a snow forecast. Expect orographic drizzle with sunbreaks today, for a 90% chance of rainbows. Total precip will be under .1”. The snow level will be 8000′ early, rising to 10,000′ midday and staying there. Temps at 5000′ will be near 40 this morning, in the mid-30’s midday, and near 40 in the evening. Wind today will be W 30 early, WNW 35-40 midday and WNW 25 in the evening.

Monday starts out clear. Periods of high overcast are likely during the day. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 10,000′ or higher all day with temps at 5000′ near 40 degrees in the morning and 50 degrees in the afternoon. Wind will be WNW 30 in the morning, slowly swinging to W 25 in the afternoon.

Tuesday looks clear for much of the day. Clouds move in late ahead of a weak approaching system. The FAF will be 12,000′ for much of the day with temps at 5000′ in the upper 40’s. Wind will be WSW 20-30 early, becoming WNW 30 midday and W 25 overnight.

The next chance of snow is late Tuesday night, when the FAF drops from 12,000′ to 5500′ with a few tenths of an inch of water value overnight. At this point, it looks like we’ll see a couple inches of new snow on the ground on Wednesday morning, but models have been steadily decreasing the precip amounts. The next potentially wet system is set for Friday-Sunday, but again, the precip amounts have been dropping every day.

Plain Old Local Weather

Looks like we’ll see partly cloudy weather today with temps rising into the upper 40’s. Tomorrow starts off near freezing with clear sky, but low clouds fill in midday, keeping temps in the upper 30’s during the day. Tuesday looks clear and near freezing to start, warming up to the upper 40’s in the afternoon.

Looks like we’ll see a bit of a modified Arctic blast Wednesday afternoon through Friday midday. So, a few flurries are possible Wednesday. Friday evening is a bit of a concern, but at this point, it looks like the cold air will be scoured out before the Friday night precip hits (if it doesn’t just disappear from the weather models).

Gorge Wind Forecast

We have a .09 gradient and above-freezing temps this morning. With that setup, you can expect westerlies at 21-24 today from Hood River out to Maryhill or so with 13-15 at Steven’s Locks and east of Rufus. Monday starts with west wind at 15-18, but it’ll switch to east wind at 10-15 in the afternoon. Tuesday starts off light and picks up to W 21-24 or so in the afternoon.

Road and Mountain Biking

So wishing I could ride my bike today! You go ride for me – just take your cross bike for a spin. Anyone have any feedback on the trails? I’m guessing they’ve thawed out and are really muddy, but that’s just a guess.

It’s very warm and cozy in my office at Mt. Hood Meadows this morning. It’s so warm and cozy that it’s making me want to take a nap, even though it’s not yet 7am.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Today looks like a cloudy day on Mt. Hood with a chance of a few sprinkles in the afternoon, evening and overnight, with less than .1” of rain. Just sprinkles. Not rain, drizzle or downpour. Sprinkles. The free air freezing level (FAF) today will be 10,000′ early, rising to 12,000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be WNW 15 in the morning, steadily rising to W 30 in the afternoon.

Tomorrow starts out cloudy with a chance of sprinkles, becoming clear in the afternoon. The FAF will be 10,000′ all day. Expect wind at W 30-35 in the morning, becoming WNW 30-35 in the afternoon as the sky clears.

Expect clear sky on Monday with the FAF between 9000′ and 10,000′. Wind on Monday will be NW 25+.

Next chance for precipitation is on Wednesday evening, and that should come in as snow, perhaps even snow in the lowlands. The following round of precip is predicted for Friday, too far out to be predicting, but tentatively scheduled to come in as rain.

Plain Old Local Weather

Although it’s 36 degrees in Hood River this morning, the roads were sparkling with ice at 5:20am when I left my house. Expect temps today to rise to 40 degrees in the afternoon under cloudy sky. Maybe some sprinkles will fall overnight, and maybe not.

Sunday looks cloudy in the Gorge all day with temps rising into the upper 40’s. Monday looks clear with temps in the upper 30’s.

In the long-range forecast, we may see some snow in the Gorge on Wednesday night as a very cold system moves in. Even colder air is predicted to filter in to the Gorge on Thursday and Friday, and then a warm system is predicted to move over the top of this icy-cold air Friday night, for doom and destruction. Of course, this is way too far out to be predicting doom and destruction, but it’s still fun to speculate, as much as I’d hate to see doom and destruction.

Gorge Wind Forecast

The gradient this morning stands at E .01, not enough for any wind of note. We’ll see the easterlies pick up to 10-15 at the usual windy spots this morning before the wind flip-flops to W 13-15 this afternoon. Expect westerlies at 15-18 from Hood River eastward on Sunday and easterlies at 21-24 on Monday.

Road and Mountain Biking

Mmmph. I saw several road bike racer types on the Twin Tunnels yesterday around 3pm. I even saw one wearing shorts.
