We’re going to see another cool day today as yet another system starts pushing across the northwest. The pdx-dls gradient is .09 this morning, and it’s blowing in the mid to upper teens through most of the Gorge as of 5am. As this system pushes in, we’ll get gusty west wind in the 16-18 range from Stevenson to Mosier this morning with 24-27 from Mosier to Arlington in the afternoon. The strongest wind is probably going to be at Arlington and Maryhill today.

Models still aren’t agreeing on tomorrow. There’s a ridge of high pressure building in from the Rockies, and that’s not a good sign for wind. One model is showing glassy conditions and the other is showing 17-20. I’m going to go with a compromise tomorrow and say we’ll see 13-15 from Stevenson to Hood River, with the wind fading a bit and getting gusty in the afternoon.
Coming up this weekend, summer returns with high temperatures in the mid to upper 80’s. The Columbia is going to be pretty glassy on Saturday (when Temira will sleep in), with west wind in the 17-21 range returning Sunday afternoon.
Saturday won’t be windy, but there’s the World Kayak/Kayak Shed shop paddle on the White Salmon with demos, raffle and a bbq. The White Salmon, in case you were wondering, is now at a fairly friendly 3.25 feet and the Klickitat is at a somewhat mellow 1800 cfs.
In mountain bike news, Cooks Meadow trail is now open. A thousand thanks go out to Jimmy T and his crews for all the hard work up there. If you’d like a group mountain bike ride, the Dirty Fingers Post n’ Pint co-ed peloton leaves the shop at 5:30 tonight, and the all-girls Disco Divas ride is meeting at the Spring Street Corral at 9am tomorrow.
