I do have some nice business sponsors who give away prizes for my email recipients, people who’ve donated. This week’s is Cascade Acupuncture in Hood River and The Dalles. Let’s face it: you play hard. You’re going to get sore, and you might even get hurt. Cascade Acupuncture can help you with that. Massage? Sure. Acupuncture? Definitely. Chinese Herbs? Yes, that too. Over 20 insurance companies will cover Cascade Acupuncture’s service, and C.A. will do the hard part of checking your insurance coverage and benefits, to minimize the risk of large bills. With locations in Hood River and The Dalles, online scheduling, and Monday-Saturday hours, it’s convenient to get yourself feeling better, right now.

So, when I said yesterday we were back to mellow midweek Gorge today, I forget about the Slider Project’s Ro Sham Throwdown wakeskate kiteboarding contest going on at the Sandbar in Hood River all week. This is going to be a really cool show, so grab the kids and come down and watch. Or send the kids down to watch on their bikes and get some alone time! For times and events, check sliderproject.com.

They probably won’t have enough wind to run heats today, as an upper low off the coast shuts down the Gorge. Light wind this morning goes to no wind later. The offshore low moves east tomorrow, for very light wind in the morning that picks up to gusty west 21-24 through the whole Gorge tomorrow afternoon. Wednesday’s a ways out to be predicting, but it’s starting to look pretty windy, with gusty mid to upper twenties from mid-morning on through evening.

I’ve been getting a bunch of calls from my farmer friends, so here’s the rain report: We’ll be dry today, but we might get thunderstorms tomorrow evening, with the strongest chances late in the evening and overnight, It won’t be as bad as the last two rounds, but there’s still a chance of a few showers Tuesday night into Wednesday afternoon.

Everyone cross your fingers that the rain falls on the bike trails and not on the cherries. It’s dusty out there, and we could sure use some rain on the Post Canyon red dirt. And finally, for everyone who loves the Seven Streams trail, remember it closes Friday, so get up there and run and ride this week! Remember that Seven Streams closes on Friday and logging operations begin next Monday.

Have an awesome day today!

7/15 Gorge wind and events

Looks like the wind finally came up yesterday for Kiteboarding for Cancer, after a bit of a scare with the morning thunderstorms. I’m still waiting to hear how much money they raised, but I’ll have that for you tomorrow after the event is all finished.

In really, really, really important news, today is National Ice Cream Day. F**k yeah! I love ice cream. Everyone go to Mike’s today!

The weather has taken a turn for the better today, unless you hate wind. The low pressure system that brought thunderstorms yesterday has moved east, and we’re under the influence of the ‘Classic Gorge Setup.’ However, today’s CGS is a little strong for my taste, with clouds pushing past the Hatchery this morning. That makes for a nice sunrise, but shifts the wind east.

That said,we’ll see a quick jump to 26-30 this morning at Mosier and Rowena, and then Maryhill, picking up to 28-33 and filling in all the way to Arlington this afternoon. Unless the clouds burn back quite a bit, the Hatchery and Hood River will remain in the 18-21 range. If you want the most wind you can possibly get, you’ll want to be at Doug’s or Rowena today for 35ish. The wind should be as steady as it gets today, so get out and enjoy it if that’s your thing.

If you don’t like the wind, you’ll like tomorrow better. We start with 5-10 in the morning and build to 15-18 in the afternoon. Tuesday also starts off light, but picks up to the low twenties in the afternoon.

In events, the Oregon Enduro race continues in Post Canyon today on the 130, 135 and Mitchell Ridge trails. Kiteboarding for Cancer also continues today, with relay races on the beach and more fun at the Event Site. Come on down and check it out!

Tonight, Molly Schwartz sings in her beautiful songbird way at Columbia Center for the Arts in the “I Hate Cancer Concert.” Don’t worry. She’s singing fun classic songs. You’ll have a good time!

Coming up tomorrow, it’s back to quiet weekday Gorge time, with no big events during the day and mellow free tai chi class at 6pm at Wilson Park.

Have an awesome day today!
