First thing today, I’d like to say thank you to all of you who donated during August pledge drive month. There was never a day where I didn’t post a forecast, because every day someone donated. Thank you to all of you both for using this forecast and for supporting it! Remember that although it’s free for you to use, it’s not free for me. I put a lot of time into giving you an accurate forecast, and I pay for the hosting on this website. If you find it valuable, please take the time to make a donation to support what I do. Your generosity helps keep this going for everyone. I also send an email version of this forecast. Make a $12 or larger donation, and you’re on the email list for a year. No more dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive, and you’ll also have a chance to win prizes from the sponsors. Thank you again for your support!
This week’s sponsor is Dirt Hugger, offering curbside food waste collection service for your business, school, office, store, restaurant or hospital in Hood River and The Dalles. All that food waste becomes awesome compost for your garden, yard, farm or vineyard. You can pick up that compost or have it delivered. If we as a society can’t make composting happen through our cities and counties, at least we can make it happen through a cool local business. This is one of my favorite businesses in the Gorge. Support them, please.
First thing this morning is a quick note that there’s a wildfire between Hood River and Mosier, meaning the Twin Tunnels Trail is most likely closed. Plan your day accordingly.
It looks like another gorgeous fall day in the Gorge. Light west wind this morning gives way to a glassy river midday and east wind at 15-18 near Stevenson this afternoon. So get out the paddleboards and rowing shells. Tomorrow brings easterlies at 15-18 at Stevenson and 24-28 at Rooster. Friday sees west wind return at 10-15 in the afternoon. The extended forecast, never very reliable, shows west wind on Saturday and east wind on Sunday, but making plans around that forecast will probably leave you disappointed.
Coming up tomorrow night, the Heather Pola leads an all-comers mountain bike ride at Syncline at 5:30pm. Also tomorrow night, the Kayak Shed has their shop paddle on the White Salmon River and the Hood River yacht club has their sailboat races.
If you’re looking for something to do Thursday night, you can come to the always fun Hood River County Trails meeting at 4pm at 601 State in Hood River. This is your chance to hear the latest proposals for new trails in Hood River County. Later that evening, 10 Speed Roastery is showing the movie “Ride the Divide”, about the toughest mountain bike race in the world: It’s 2700 miles (the race, not the move) and most riders do it alone. 7:30pm, $10, Thursday night. 13th and State. Beer available. Coffee too. And bike stuff, as it’s next door to Dirty Fingers.
Coming up this weekend, road bikers take to the streets in Hood River Valley for the annual Harvest Ride. Also this weekend, it’s the White Salmon Homecoming party to celebrate the opening of the entire Whtie Salmon River to kayaking and rafting. There’s still space on the community raft float – just $20 gets you a trip down the river. Also this weekend, my least favorite event: Hops Fest, where you can drink all the beer (yuck) that you want. One positive side of Hops Fest is that, as of last night, Meadows was planning on taking pass photos until 5pm. That’s not guaranteed yet, but they’re definitely tossing around the idea.
Have an awesome day today!
