Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

If you were on the mountain Saturday, you’ll find Sunday to be much the same. Mostly clear sky and light wind. Monday looks the same as Sunday. More clouds move in on Tuesday with light snow, and rain arrives midday Thursday, but the details for that day are far from clear.

For Sunday, expect a mostly sunny day with periods of partly cloudy sky. The free air freezing level will be around 1500′ early, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 2000′ overnight. Wind will be NW 15-20 for the first half of the day, SW 5-10 in the afternoon, and W 5-10 after midnight.

Monday looks mostly clear with partly cloudy sky in the afternoon. The free air freezing level will be 2000′ early and 4000′ in the afternoon and evening. Wind will be light and variable.

Tuesday starts off cloudy. Light snowfall arrives around 8am and sticks around. The snow level will be 4000′ all day. About an inch of new snow will fall during the day. A trace will fall overnight. Wind will be light and variable most of the day and SW 10-15 overnight.

Details on Wednesday are not clear. An area of low pressure will eventually develop over the PNW. However, this may or may not start with a strong, compact low sliding up the coast. The path of this low will dictate the precipitation amount on the mountain, and to some extent the snow level too. The broad brush picture is a couple inches of snow followed by rain. The rain could be light and intermittent, or it could be quite heavy. This really depends on the path of the low. So that’s it for this forecast. No model agreement for the middle of next week.

Random Morning Thoughts

You might have noticed that I’m a big fan of exploration of experience. This can work with insomnia too. Not feline insomnia. That occurs when a cat stomps across your head in the middle of the night or sits on your chest and meows. Generally speaking, feline insomnia is an indication of a dirty litter box, not unresolved internal human experiences.

Anyway, if your insomnia is unrelated to your pet, see if you can get in touch with your body. Somewhere in there will be some energy or tension. Spend some time with it. Don’t get suckered into thinking about it. Just let yourself feel whatever it is that’s keeping you up. You’ll have to trust your internal wisdom – perhaps even ask yourself, “What’s in my body that’s keeping me awake?”

When you find it, hang out with it. Notice the details. Immerse yourself in it. Be curious. Maybe see if you can notice how your breath and the energy keeping you awake are intertwined. Hang out there. It might just resolve. And if not, you’ve just spent time meditating rather than worrying about not sleeping. You’re ahead either way. May you be well rested. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Gorge Wind Forecast

For Sunday, we’ll have west wind at 10-13 through the whole Gorge all day. On Monday, we’ll start off calm. The wind will turn to very light westerly in the afternoon. Tuesday starts with light east wind and turns to light west wind at less than 5mph. Wednesday looks like E 10-15 in the western Gorge in the morning and E 10-15 everywhere in the afternoon.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It was dark as I wrote this, and there was some sort of cloud layer out there. The clouds should burn off, leaving us with a sunny day. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and low 50’s later. Light west wind. No rainbows. Monday looks mostly clear. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light and variable wind. No rainbows. Tuesday looks cloudy with occasional sprinkles. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and low 60’s in the afternoon. Wednesday looks rainy.
