Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

The general picture for the next few days is mostly dry weather Sunday and Monday followed by a return to snow on Tuesday night. Sunday is starting out clear and starry on Mt. Hood, and the sun should be out all day long. It’s possible mid-level clouds will move in tonight. The free air freezing level will be 0′ early and 2000′ in the afternoon. Models disagree on precip, giving overnight totals of zero to 2” of new snow. Wind will be NE 5 early, N 15 in the afternoon, and NNW 20 overnight.

Monday looks partly cloudy to start, sunny in the afternoon, and clear overnight. The free air freezing level will be 0′ early and up to 1000′ in the afternoon. No precip. Wind: NNW 20 in the morning and NW 15 in the afternoon and overnight.

Tuesday starts off clear but quickly turns cloudy. Light snow starts around 1pm and picks up after 4pm. The snow level will be 0′ early, 1500′ in the afternoon and evening. Precip: 0.1” water value (WV) before 1pm, for an inch of new. 0.8” WV overnight, for 8-9” of very fluffy powder. Wind will be NW 15 early, WNW 35 by 4pm, holding overnight.

Wednesday sees continues light snowfall. The snow level will be 500′ early, 1000′ in the afternoon, and 0′ overnight. Precip: 0.2” WV during the day, for 2-3” of fluffy powder. 0.1” WV overnight, for another inch of new snow. Wind: WNW 35 in the morning, NW 20 in the afternoon, NW 10 in the evening, and NE 15 overnight. Thursday and Friday currently look clear. Models disagree on how next weekend will play out.

Gorge Wind

For Sunday, we’ll start with light west wind in the west and light east wind in the east. Winds will switch around to light easterly – 5-10mph or less – after noon. River flow is 135kcfs and river temp is 35 degrees. Monday starts with light east flow and picks up to E 20-25 after 1pm. Tuesday starts with easterlies at 15-20. As a system approaches, the wind will turn westerly in the far west and the far east around 10am (18-22mph), finally turning westerly in the central Gorge around midnight. Wednesday starts with west wind at 16-19 and turns around to east 10-15 after 1pm.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Sunday’s starting out mostly cloudy, but there’s enough clear sky that temps were dropping fast between 4am and 6pm. We’ll probably see a low in the upper 20’s followed by a high in the upper 30’s. Mostly cloudy is the mantra for today. Models disagree on snow tonight: the GFS keeps us dry and the ECMWF has 1/2” to 2” snow. Light west wind early. Light east wind afternoon. No rainbows. Monday starts with Nothing and ends up clear. Temps will be in the mid 20’s early and mid 30’s later. East wind. Nor rainbows. Tuesday starts off with Nothing, turns snowy after 10am and eventually switches to rain (maybe not until early Wednesday) as the snow level rises to 500′ in the Gorge. Up to 4” of new snow. No rainbows.
