For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of what the Gorge has to offer: riding river swell on a foil or windsurf board, carving fresh lines through the snow, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work. That’s why in 2006, Temira took it upon themselves to create the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Inaccurate predictions had left too many fellow adventurers caught off-guard and in harm’s way. Temira was determined to change that. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and travelers through the Gorge. With their guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and stay safer on the water, snow, and trails. But the story doesn’t end there. Temira also authors the TATAS Facebook page – the Gorge’s premier source for microclimate forecasts. When winter storms, extreme heat, or other hazardous conditions (avalanches on SR-14 and I-84, for example!) threaten, this community lifeline becomes a vital resource for locals and visitors alike, helping to keep everyone safe.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Good morning skiers and snowboarders! It’s definitely a powder day up there, and there’s no sign of warming temps or rain in the forecast for today. As an added bonus, the extreme winds forecast in yesterday’s models have backed off by about 15mph. We should keep most if not all of the lifts this afternoon. That’s a welcome change! Snow continues on and off through Wednesday morning when models are hinting at somewhat warmer, borderline temps. After a couple days of warmth next week, we plunge right back into colder, snowy weather. What a start to the season it’s been! There’s powder on the ground now, and another foot or so of powder arrives today. The snow level will be around 2500′ all day and will fall to 1500′ tonight after the passage of a cold front. Temps fall to 24-25F at 5000′ this afternoon. About 0.8” water equivalent (WE) falls today for 8-10” powder. Overnight, models have another 0.3” WE for 3-4” dry powder. Strong wind could give us orographic enhancement and 20-40% more snow than all that. Wind: WSW 20 early, WNW 40 this afternoon, and W 25-30 overnight. Yesterday’s model run had us at W 60 this afternoon with a total shutdown. WNW 40 is enough to take out the Star lift at Meadows, but I suspect the rest of the lifts will hang on. Is today a park out day? Probably. Take the CAT bus from Hood River to Meadows and spare yourself the driving headaches.
Monday looks spectacular: fresh powder on the ground, cold temps, and moderate wind. The snow level will be 1500′ in the morning, 2000′ in the afternoon, and 1000′ overnight (less in the Gorge). About 0.3” WE is forecast during the day. 3-4” dry powder piles up from that. Overnight, another inch of powder is forecast prior to the sky clearing. Wind: W 25-30 all morning, WSW 15-20 midday, W 20 in the afternoon, and W 10 overnight. Let’s call that a park out day for all the resorts.
Tuesday: also lovely. It starts sunny and turns high overcast. Snow arrives overnight. The free air freezing level will be 0-1000′ during the day. The snow level will rise to 4000-4500′ overnight as temps at 5000′ warm from the low/mid 20s to right near freezing. Dry weather sticks around all day. Overnight, 0.3” WE falls as wet snow, for 1-3” new. Wind: W 10 in the morning, SW 5-15 in the afternoon, and building to SW 20-30 overnight.
As of this morning, Wednesday’s a crap shoot that depends on the path of an incoming low. If it goes south, the mountain receives snow. Right overhead or just north: mixed precip. Farther north: mixed precip or rain. Vote for the southerly path. Models then keep things somewhat warm for Thursday before (probably) cooling us down and dumping more snow starting Friday. All-in-all, if that holds, we’ll be adding to the snowpack and shredding some great days on Mt. Hood. Have fun!
Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Active weather continues this week, and that gives alternating rounds of east wind and west wind. Today’s your best shot at westerlies, but not til the afternoon. Gradients started flat. As a cold front approaches late morning or early afternoon, we’ll see our usual brief Hatch blast at gusty 20-30 between Stevenson and the Hatch with even gustier conditions in Hood River. Between Mosier and Doug’s, less. Out east, the wind probably won’t pick up until after dark, but it will pick up to gusty 20-30 as well. River flow over the last 24 hours was 109-264kcfs, river temp is 45.50F, and high temp forecast is 41F with light to moderate rain in the morning and heavy rain when the cold front arrives.
On Monday, we’ll have lingering westerlies at 10-13mph all day long, all through the Gorge. High temp: 46F with showers. Tuesday starts with easterlies at 15mph at Iwash (Rooster) Rock and 15-20mph at Stevenson. Afternoon wind rises to 15-20mph at Stevenson and 25mph at Iwash. Wednesday starts with easterlies (and snow, potentially), and maybe turns to westerlies in the afternoon. Depends on the path of an incoming low. Beyond that, we’re looking at a couple days or more of easterlies. Have fun out there today!

Cycling Update
Trails have been a mix of frozen, hoar-frost (unrideable), and freeze-thaw. When it’s wet and muddy, or when there are freeze-thaw conditions, please don’t ride, or you’ll do significant trail damage. Then peeps have to fix your mess rather than building new trails. Nobody wants that! Everyone wants new trails. Be a good steward, and pick a different activity
Remember: E-bikes are not allowed on USFS non-moto trails. They are allowed on moto trails.
Make Today Awesome!
Whether you’re shredding fresh powder on Mt. Hood, surfing swell on the Columbia, or just enjoying our stunning home… remember that every day here is a gift. Make the most of it.
Have an absolutely epic day out there!
