Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

High overcast sky Sunday morning gives way to sunshine it the afternoon. That’s followed by a round of snow on Monday and a return to partly cloudy conditions for the next few days. Spring is most definitely here!

For Sunday, expect some high clouds in the morning. Those should clear out by late morning, leaving full sun and epic corn snow conditions, thanks to sub-freezing overnight temps. The freezing level will be 2500′ early, 5000′ in the afternoon, and 6500′ overnight. Wind will be light and variable during the day and will rise to S 15-20 overnight.

Monday starts with high clouds. Snow moves in around 10am and continues into the evening. The snow level will be 6500′ early, 4500′ when the precip arrives, and 2000′ after the precip ends. About 0.3” water value (WV) falls during the day, for about 3” of regular old Cascade snow. Another 0.2” WV falls overnight for a couple inches more. Wind will be S 15 early, SSE 20 mid-morning and afternoon, and WSW 20 after the system moves through overnight.

Tuesday looks partly cloudy all day as westerly flow creates clouds along the flanks of the Cascades. Precipitation will be none to a trace. The snow level will be 2000′ early and 4000′ in the afternoon. Wind will be WSW 25 early, SW 10 int eh afternoon, and E 20 overnight.

Wednesday looks sunny in the morning with high clouds int eh afternoon. The free air freezing level will be 4000′ early, 5000′ in the afternoon and 4000′ overnight. Wind will be E 15-20 all day. Thursday looks similar but a bit less windy.

Gorge Wind

Light westerlies on Saturday morning turn even lighter by the end of the day; we’ll have 13-16 this morning from Viento to Mosier with rain east of The Dalles. In the afternoon, the wind drops to W 5 or so everywhere. Monday starts with E 20-25 near Cascade Locks and E 25-30 near Rooster Rock. By mid-afternoon, the wind goes calm. After 5pm, as a front passes, the wind switches to gusty westerly at 18-22 from Stevenson to Arlington. That’ll be short-lived, and not worth chasing far. Tuesday starts with W 7-11 and goes light and variable in the afternoon.

Road and Mountain Biking

Syncline report: the lower half of it is dry-not-tacky, amazingly enough. Sounds like Hidden is good. Columbia Hills is also open and rideable and probably full of wildflowers, just like Syncline. However, incoming rain this afternoon will slickify everything, so you’ll want to ride early. Tacky conditions (and hoards of people) return on Saturday.

Upcoming Events

On Sunday, there’s by-donation yoga at Samadhi at 9am. There’s ping pong at the Skamania County Fairgrounds at 10:30, pickup touch rugby for all ages at 11am at the Hood River Marina, and indoor Ultimate Frisbee at 5pm at Horizon Christian School.
