Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Timberline, Meadows, Teacup, Meadows Nordic, and Skibowl tubing are all open today. Meadows is passholders only. Masks are required everywhere, and please, please don’t go to the mountain if you’re sick or if you’ve been around a covid case in the last two weeks.

Light snowfall on Sunday gives way to mostly cloudy sky in the afternoon with clear weather above 5500′ or so. High clouds move in overnight. The snow level will be 4000′ during the day and will rise to 10,000′ overnight. Just 0.1” water equivalent (WE) falls during the day, for an inch of new. Wind: NW 20-25 early, W 5 in the afternoon, and NW 5 overnight.

Monday looks dry with partly cloudy, high overcast sky. The free air freezing level will be 10,000′ in the morning and will rise to 12,000′ by midnight. NO precip. Wind: NW 5 in the morning, SW 10-20 in the afternoon, and SW 20-40 overnight.

Most members of the model ensembles agree on some rain on Tuesday, but they sure don’t agree on how much. The snow level will be 12,000′ in the morning, 6500′ in the afternoon, and will fall to 5000′ under partly cloudy sky overnight. Up to 0.4” WE will fall as rain. But then again, it could be no rain at all! Wind: SW 20-40 early, W 20 in the afternoon, and W 10 overnight.

As of today, models suggest we’ll see additional snow on Wednesday and Thursday.

Cycling

Do be aware of the possibility of freeze-thaw (muddy) conditions this week, especially on trails that are not under a tree canopy. Do not ride if it was below freezing last night and is above freezing when you want to ride. The soil structure will be liquefied, and you will do permanent damage to trails. Consider riding gravel roads instead. GP will be closed through December for upgrades. Contact HRATS if you’d like to help.
