Gorge Wind Forecast

Yesterday was stupidly fun at The Wall – ginormous swell and just the right amount of current. Now that we’re in Rufus season, the Mother Nature has decided to make The Wind available there. For Saturday, we’ve started off with gradients of .08 and .08. The wind will be in the 23-27 range from Avery eastward to Arlington this morning with 13-17 under the partly-cloudies in the west. You may find 20-24 at Mosier too, because Mosier always seems to be windy early morning. As high pressure builds this afternoon, the sky will clear, shifting the strongest wind westward and killing the wind at Arlington. So, this afternoon you’ll find 18-22 near Stevenson and 23-26 from Viento to Rufus. The wind might die off at Rufus, and it might not…

Looking at Sunday, all we have for most of the day is hot weather and calm conditions as temps max out in the low 90’s all over the Northwest. Late in the day, a weak front will move towards Portland, dragging in cooler air. The result in terms of wind will be 5-10 near Stevenson after 2pm, 13-16 from Stevenson to Hood River after 5pm, and very strong wind from Viento east to Arlington after 8pm. LATE!

Clouds fill in the western Gorge on Monday morning and even drop some drizzle as far east as Hood River or even The Dalles mid-morning. This, naturally, shifts the wind east. You’ll find 18-23 int eh western Gorge and Dawn Patrol of 25-29 from Mosier to Arlington. Looks like we’ll see 27-31+ from Moiser to Arlington from mid-morning. You may find a period of strong but very gusty 24-29 from Viento to Hood River early afternoon, but it’s going to be… violent, feisty, and devilish. You’ll be happier if you head east.

BONUS: Jones Saturday: 20-23. Sunday: 24-28+, Monday: X. Sauvie’s Saturday: 13-16 late. Sunday/Monday: 13-16. Coast (north/central/south). Saturday: 15-20/20-25/30+, W swell 2′ at 10 seconds. Sunday: 15-20/15-20/25-30, W 2′ @ 10. Monday: NW 20-25/N 20-25/15-20+, W 6′ @ 12.

Mt. Adams Country Bike Tour – June 30th

If you haven’t ridden the roads around Trout Lake, you’re missing out. These epic rides wind through forests and past waterfalls (and wild berries). Traffic is minimal. Cell service is spotty. And that’s why the Mt. Adams Country Bike Tour is the perfect opportunity. Sag wagons. Repair support. Food. Water. Lunch. Dinner. Four ride options include an 11½-mile Family Friendly ride (just $10 to ensure accessibility to all families), a 51-mile Trout Lake – BZ Corner – Glenwood Loop, a 54-mile Forest Loop, and a 105-mile Infinity Ride. Click here, now, to get signed up today before the ride fills up.

Road and Mountain Biking

High Prairie down to 450 is open, according to Strava. Still only have one attempt on Gunsight two weeks ago that took 1 hour and 48 minutes, 48 minutes longer than it should have. So.. probably trees and snow, but possible to get through in some way… No guarantees! Big Winds has free demos of Yuba E-Bikes today (Saturday).

Upcoming Events

If you don’t already have plans today, there’s lots going on. The Children’s Park community rebuild continues in Hood River – swing by to help out. Cascade Locks has opening day of sailing season with free sailboat rides, informal races, and a BBQ. There’s a swap meet at Luhr Jensen this morning. Actually, there’s not – they cancelled it, apparently.

Starting at 10, you’ll have to pick between Bingen and Mosier: the Rock the Point festival with $10 watersports equipment demos is today, and there’s a concert there tonight. Mosierfest is at the Mosier School all day with music, activities, food, and of course, Mosier cherries. If you haven’t tried an E-Bike yet, you can do it for free at Big Winds today – they have free demos of Yuba cargo and family bikes. Tonight is the World Naked Bike Ride in Portland.
