Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

It’s Saturday morning, and there are high clouds above Mt. Hood. The weather will turn drizzly around noon with mostly cloudy conditions overnight. The snow level will be 10,000′ early, 7500′ midday, and 9000′ in the afternoon and evening. About 1/4” rain will fall today. Wind will be SW 10 early, S 15-20 midday, SW 20-25 in the afternoon, and SW 30-40+ overnight.

Sunday starts off mostly cloudy. Rain starts up around 10am and switches to light snowfall in the afternoon. The snow level will be 9000′ early, 4500′ around noon, and 3000′ in the evening. About 1/4” rain will fall in the afternoon, and another .2” water value (WV) will fall as snow overnight. That’ll give us 1-3” of new snow. Wind Sunday will be SW 30-40 for much of the day with WSW 30-35 in the afternoon and WNW 40 after midnight.

Monday looks windy with light orographic snowfall. Teh snow level will be 3500′ early, 2500′ in the evening, and 5500′ in the wee hours of Tuesday. About .2” WV during the day Monday gives us about 2” of new snow. A trace falls overnight. Wind will be WNW 40 in the morning, WSW 20 in the afternoon, and WSW 30 after midnight.

Tuesday looks borderline for a rain/snow mix in the morning. That system will be followed by a trace of snow. The snow level will be 5500′-6000′ when the precip starts and 2000-3000′ when it ends. Right now, we’re expecting about .6” WV, which might give us a couple inches of wet snow. Wind will be W 40 for most of the day and N 20 overnight.

Random Morning Thoughts

Today is Small Business Saturday, a day to shop at local businesses. It’s also just plain old Saturday, a day when you might have a little extra time to get out and play. Completely unrelated to that (perhaps) is the long list of things you might be worrying about or thinking about.

Before you get on with the rest of the day, try this: write all that stuff down on a piece of paper. When our worries are rolling around in our minds, they have an opportunity to proliferate. I think this might have to do with the fact that our minds only have so much capacity to keep track of things. When we bounce from worry to worry, we never reach any sort of resolution. Our mind keeps looping around.

Putting our worries in more concrete form, even in a list, can make them more concrete. It can help us see what’s reasonable and what’s not realistic. And that can give us some relief – not 100%, mind you, but a bit. And that’s better than nothing at all, right? Have an awesome day!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Saturday will be an east wind day: 30-40 all day near Rooster Rock and 20-25 near Stevenson with 15-20 near Viento. Rain picks up around noon, so keep that in mind. River temp is 49 degrees, and air temp today will max out in the mid 40’s. Sunday starts off with east wind but quickly switches around. The forecast has backed off from yesterday’s forecast. I expect we’ll see gusty 23-28 from Mosier to Arlington between noon and 3pm. Stevenson to Hood River will likely stay in the clouds, with gusty 18-22. After 3pm, the wind will back off to 10-13 everywhere. Modnay looks like gusty 21-25 from 9am to 2pm between Hood River and Arlington.
