Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hello skiers, snowboarders, and Nordic folk. We have a nice deep snowpack to shred. That’s good. Temps will be right on the edge of snow/rain for the next stretch of time, and things look really warm towards the end of next week. Let’s dive in to the forecast and see what we’ve got!
Saturday will be basically dry in the morning with just a few scattered sprinkles. Overnight, we’re expecting a bit of mixed precip that’s probably going to alternate between rain and snow or perhaps just be very, very wet snow. About 0.2” to 0.3” water equivalent is forecast overnight. The snow level will be somewhere around 6500′ during the day and down to 5000′ overnight. Depending on elevation, that could be freezing rain (likely areas, but not guaranteed lower slopes of skibowl, HRM base, Teacup) or a couple inches of snow (above 5000′). Wind: S 5-10 early builds to S 25-30 in the afternoon and turns to SW 20-35 overnight.
Sunday brings additional mixed precip. Models disagree – look at the sounding model, and you’re sure it’s snow at 5000′. Look at the 850mb temp model, and you’d say rain at 5000′. So, it’s either going to be very wet snow, snain, or, especially overnight, rain. About 0.3” WE is forecast during the day. Snow up high. Snain/rain down low. Overnight, another 0.5” WE mixed wintry precip is in the cards. Wind: SW 20-35 all day and all night.
Temps continue to look a bit warm for snow on Monday. Call it mixed precip again with snow possible overnight thanks to falling temps. The snow level will be somewhere in the 5500-6500′ range all day with temps at 850mb at +4C in the morning, +3C in the afternoon, and +1C overnight. About 0.3” WE mixed precip falls during the day. Overnight: 0.3” WE again for up to three inches of snow but probably less. Wind: SW 15-30 in the morning, S 5-15 in the afternoon, and WSW 10-15 after midnight. Several inches of snow are likely on Tuesday as temps at 850mb fall to 0 or +1C. Ditto Wednesday. Models really like the idea of really warm weather for the mountain at the end of the week, but they are uncertain how much precip will join the warm temps. That’s all for now. Enjoy the slopes!
