Mt. Hood Weather Forecast
Winter is definitely here! We’ll see light snowfall Saturday and Sunday followed by some serious snow accumulation Sunday night into Wednesday morning. Temps will be cold, and the powder will be light, dry and fluffy.
For Saturday, we’ll see light snowfall, decreasing in intensity, all day and night. The snow level will be 0′, and mountain temps will drop in to the low teens or single digits this afternoon. About 0.2” water value (WV) falls during the day, for 2-3” of fluffy pow. Another 0.1” WV falls tonight, for an inch or so of additional fluffy goodness. Wind will be SW 10-15 in the morning, S 10-15 in the afternoon, and NNE 20 after midnight.
Light snowfall early Sunday gives way to partly cloudy sky with flurries in the afternoon. Heavy snow moves in overnight. The snow level will be 0′, and mountain temps will be in the teens. A trace to an inch of new snow falls during the day. About 0.7” WV arrives overnight, for 8-9” of fluffy dry powder. Wind will be NNE 20 early, WNW 25 in the afternoon, and W 35-40 overnight. Come to think of it, with those wind speeds, we could see snowfall increase by 50% over that 8-9”…
Heavy snowfall continues all day Monday for storm skiing. Not for the faint of heart. Snow level: 0′. Temps: low 20’s. Precip: 1.0” WV during the day, for 12-14” of powder. 0.9” WV overnight, for 9-10” of increasingly dense fresh snow. Wind will be W 35-40 in the morning, and SW 25-35 in the afternoon and evening.
Moderate snowfall continues on Tuesday. Models disagree on how much snow will fall, but it’ll likely be at least a foot in the 24 hour period. Looks like we’ll see a break from snowfall Wednesday followed by another round Thursday into Friday.
It’s pretty windy out there, and downright amazing that I-84 is still open! For Saturday, we’ll have easterlies at 30-40 near Rooster Rock, 25-30 near Stevenson, and 10-15 near Viento. The wind will die off overnight. Sunday starts with west wind at 14-17 from Stevenson to Mosier with 5-10 farther east. The wind will go light in the afternoon and turn easterly in the evening. Monday looks like E 10-15 early and E 40-50 in the afternoon. Tuesday’s wind will likely turn calm at some point. Depending on where an incoming low travels, it might turn westerly, and it might not.

Road and Mountain Biking
As you can see by looking out your window, we have entered fat bike season. All the trails are snowy. We have also entered trainer bike season. The Power Station is a good place to do that, because they have a SICK virtual bike setup.
I’m gonna guess the two outdoor events scheduled for Saturday have been canceled. Here’s what’s supposed to happen on Sunday: there’s by-donation yoga at Samadhi at 9am. There’s ping pong at the Skamania County Fairgrounds at 10:30, pickup touch rugby for all ages at 11am at the Hood River Marina, and indoor Ultimate Frisbee at 5pm at Horizon Christian School.
