Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Monday morning as I write this, and this’ll be your report for Monday and Tuesday. We’ve settled into a offshore wind scenario for a couple days. That’ll be interrupted by a weak weather system late Tuesday into Wednesday. After that, we’re back to the high pressure and offshore wind plan.

For Monday, expect nuking easterlies. Gradients started at .32, which is HUGE. .Early morning wind was 55-60 near Rooster Rock, 30-35 near Stevenson, and 20-25 near Viento. That will will hold until early afternoon and then (as always) become gustier and a little weaker: 40-50 near Rooster and 25-30 near Stevenson. Tuesday starts off strong and fades dramatically as the weather system approaches. 40-45 near Rooster and 30-35 near Stevenson in the morning fade to 10-15 in the afternoon. Wednesday starts light and variable and then turns westerly: gusty 11-14 in the west and gusty 18-22 east of The Dalles. Next chance of a big easterly day appears to be next Saturday, but that’s a long ways out for a reliable prediction.

JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.

Mt. Hood Mountain Weather Forecast

Snow level: 11,000′ early, 8500′ overnight. Precip total: less than .1”. Wind: SW 15 building to SW 30 in the afternoon and becoming WSW 25 overnight.

Wednesday brings clouds and light rain that transitions to light mixed precip or wet snow. Snow level 9000′ falling to 5500′ in the afternoon and rising back to 9000′ after midnight. Total precip: .1” or so, for a trace of accumulation at best. Wind: WSW 25 early, W 30 in the afternoon, NW 15 overnight. Next precip: about 9 days out. Form: rain. Reliability of that long-range forecast? Minimal!

Road and Mountain Biking

**Alert** We have now entered freeze-thaw season. Multiple locations have been dropping below freezing overnight. This means that exposed trails will potentially be delicate and subject to damage, especially newer trails at elevations over 1000′. Please limit your riding to areas under the canopy. Lots of brown pow to be had! The next HRATS Post Canyon trail work party is on November 17 at 9:30 at Family Man.
