Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Snowfall early Monday morning quickly switches to rain. Dry weather returns for the afternoon. Tuesday starts with rain and switches to snow, and then it’s all snow, all the time, through Friday.

Monday’s details include wet snow pre-dawn followed by a switch to rain as the snow level rises to an impressive 11,000′ this afternoon. The sky clears this evening for a mild night. Fortunately, there’s not all that much moisture with this system: about 0.3” to 0.7” water value (WV) falls today. Call it 2-3” snow with the rest as rain. Wind will be SW 30-45 all day and SSW 30-55 overnight.

Tuesday sees clear sky early. Rain moves in mid morning and eventually turns to snow overnight. The snow level starts the day at 11,000′, falls to 5500′ by sunset, and drops to 4000′ overnight. About 0.2” WV falls as rain during the day. 0.2” to 0.5” WV lands as snow overnight, for 2-4” of base-building heavy snow. Wind: SSW 30-55 early becoming SW 40-65 during the day and SW 25-40 overnight.

With the snow level starting at 4000′ Wednesday and falling to 2000′ by Thursday morning, it’s all snow, all the time for that 24 hours. At least 0.6” WV falls during the day, for 5-6” of dense snow. Another 0.6” WV falls overnight for 5-7” fluffy powder. Wind: SW 25-40 early, WSW 40-45 in the afternoon, and W 35 overnight. More snow falls Thursday into Friday followed by a chance of a dry day on Saturday.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Easterlies start the wee at 15-20 near Stevenson, 10-15 near Viento, and 20-25 near Rooster. The wind builds to 30-40 and holds all Monday. Tuesday’s wind starts at E 40-45. It goes calm late morning and turns to gusty westerlies in the afternoon. Head east of The Dalles between 10am and 1pm (or so) for gusty 21-26. West of there: gusty 10-13. Wednesday starts light and variable. Midday wind rises to gusty 19-25 from Stevenson to Arlington. The wind drops to 15-18 west of Viento, goes calm-ish near Hood River, and levels out at 20-23 east of The Dalles.
