Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Monday, and not much happens for wind today. Easterlies on Wednesday and Thursday are followed by potential westerlies for the weekend and perhaps into early next week. Models keep shifting around, so no promises, but the trend is promising!

Monday starts with pressures of 29.90/29.98/29.97 for gradients of E 0.08 and W 0.01. That’s probably changed even as I’ve been working on the forecast. Expect easterlies to quickly die off and turn calm. As a weather system swings through early afternoon, westerlies pick up to 10-13 from Stevenson to Avery. River flow yesterday was 67-89kcfs, river temp is 63F, and high temp forecast is 65F.

Tuesday will be calm all day. High temp: 66F. Wednesday brings inland high pressure and warm temps all across the Northwest. Expect easterlies right off the bat: 25-30 at Iwash (Rooster) Rock and 20-25 at Stevenson with 15ish at Viento. The wind drops about 10mph in the afternoon. Thursday looks similar. Friday: light and variable.

Models have been holding on to upper teens or low 20’s late Saturday. On Sunday, they like the idea of low to mid 20’s east of The Dalles. Ensembles toss out all sorts of scenarios for Monday and Tuesday, so we’ll have to wait and see. Have a wonderful day today!

Cycling

As of right now (Monday morning), Whoopdee was perfect brown pow. Like Whoopdee? There are trailbuilders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail out there. Contact HRATS for more information. Syncline: good right now, with poison oak and ticks for additional challenges. Post? Maybe? See the upcoming events list for upcoming trail work parties. Don’t ride in the mud, or you’ll do permanent damage. Also, people will have to fix your messes rather than building you new trails. Just don’t, okay?No trails have closed yet due to snow, but we’re likely to lose the highest-elevation trails, at least temporarily, on the 25th . If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
