For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of what the Gorge has to offer: riding river swell on a foil or windsurf board, carving fresh lines through the snow, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work. That’s why in 2006, Temira took it upon themselves to create the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Inaccurate predictions had left too many fellow adventurers caught off-guard and in harm’s way. Temira was determined to change that. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and travelers through the Gorge. With their guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and stay safer on the water, snow, and trails. But the story doesn’t end there. Temira also authors the TATAS Facebook page – the Gorge’s premier source for microclimate forecasts. When winter storms, extreme heat, or other hazardous conditions (avalanches on SR-14 and I-84, for example!) threaten, this community lifeline becomes a vital resource for locals and visitors alike, helping to keep everyone safe.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Good morning skiers and snowboarders! Over the last couple of days, snow totals ranged from 8” at Meadows to 11” at Timberline. That’s definitely enough to refresh the groom and some of the off-piste areas. Fresh tracks!!! Teacup posted some gorgeous groom pictures this morning, and also said they were able to groom some additional trails. Y’all, it’s going to be a great day on the slopes! We’ll have another great day for groom, parks, and XC Tuesday and potentially Wednesday. “Weather” returns sometime Thursday – we’ll get into the details below.
Monday just looks awesome. Clear sky, light wind, and fresh snow on the ground. The free air freezing level will be 1500′ this morning, 5500′ this afternoon, and 9000′ after midnight. Temps at 5000′ max out in the upper 30s. With the sun angle at the mid-winter minimum, this probably won’t warm the snow all that much. Expect a gorgeous morning of powder turns and a gorgeous day of packed powder groom. Wind: light and variable all day and all night.
Clear sky Tuesday morning gives way to high clouds. The free air freezing level will be around 10,000′ all day with temps pushing into the upper 40s. Even so, the snowpack shouldn’t be too affected by this. It’ll be a great groomer day. Wind: light and variable. Wednesday will be similar, snow-wise. Weather: high overcast with high temps near 40 and light/variable wind.
The stable, warm, dry pattern breaks down on Thursday. The devil is in the details, as usual, and the detail in this case is the path of an offshore low. Its chosen course determines precipitation type and quantity. I’m going to wait ’til tomorrow before diving into the details. In general terms, it appears we’ll see a variety of p-types Thursday into Friday afternoon, after which we’ll probably see snow all weekend. But let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves; today and tomorrow both look like awesome days to be on the mountain. See you there!
Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Nice work to those of you who timed Rufus right yesterday! Want more river time? Looks like you’ll get it this week – models are trending upward on the strength of the easterlies. Monday gives you a break from the river. Go to the mountain. It should be an excellent day to skate or get some groomers. Today’s wind: not so exciting. It starts calm. Easterlies build to 15-20mph at both Iwash (Rooster) and Stevenson with 10ish at Viento. River flow over the last 24 hours was 95-136kcfs, river temp is 47.4F, and high temp forecast is 45F.
Tuesday starts with 35-40 at Iwash and 20-25 at Stevenson with 15-20 at Viento. The east wind, for once, builds during the day: 40-45 at Iwash and 30-35 at Stevenson. High temp: 40F with sun in the windy areas early and high clouds later. Wednesday sees the easterlies hold all day long: 30-35mph at Stevenson and 40-45mph at Iwash. High temp: 40F under high clouds. Lesser easterlies are forecast on Thursday. Depending on the path of an offshore low, Friday could be a nuker of an east wind day. Have a great day, everyone!

Cycling Update
Well. Now it’s raining. Trails that were frozen will turn freeze-thaw with the warming. Just don’t. When it’s wet and muddy, please don’t ride, or you’ll do significant trail damage. Then peeps have to fix your mess rather than building new trails. Nobody wants that! Everyone wants new trails. Be a good steward, and pick a different activity
Remember: E-bikes are not allowed on USFS non-moto trails. They are allowed on moto trails.
Make Today Awesome!
Whether you’re shredding fresh powder on Mt. Hood, surfing swell on the Columbia, or just enjoying our stunning home… remember that every day here is a gift. Make the most of it.
Have an absolutely epic day out there!

One reply on “Monday: my what a gorgeous day!”
Perfect day today at T’line! Warm, still, sunshine and lotsa barely tracked powder next to the groom everywhere on the lower mtn!
The Mile had some powder, but some crust, and some dense snow right next to the powder that stopped my board unpleasantly… Stormin, and Flood were stellar!
