For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of what the Gorge has to offer: riding river swell on a foil or windsurf board, carving fresh lines through the snow, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work. That’s why in 2006, Temira took it upon themselves to create the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Inaccurate predictions had left too many fellow adventurers caught off-guard and in harm’s way. Temira was determined to change that. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and travelers through the Gorge. With their guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and stay safer on the water, snow, and trails. But the story doesn’t end there. Temira also authors the TATAS Facebook page – the Gorge’s premier source for microclimate forecasts. When winter storms, extreme heat, or other hazardous conditions (avalanches on SR-14 and I-84, for example!) threaten, this community lifeline becomes a vital resource for locals and visitors alike, helping to keep everyone safe.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hey skiers and snowboarders! Yesterday was quite the storm skiing day on Mt. Hood, and today’s going to be an epic powder day even at the lower elevation spots. Storminess lets up for a couple days and maybe gives the resorts a chance to dig out. Starting Tuesday evening, we move back into another storm cycle. This one brings a shot of snow followed by mixed precip followed by another round of heavy snow. Our deep, early snowpack is just going to keep getting deeper. Interquartile range for snow through next Monday (the end of the next storm cycle) is currently quite wide: 17-32”. If you’re a Nordic skier, Teacup Nordic has a matching grant in place through the end of the year. Double your Teacup donation impact with year-end matching
Monday adds just a couple or a few more inches to the snowpack, and it’ll be powder not concrete. The snow level hovers around 1500′ for the 24 hour period with temps at 5000′ at -4C, or 25F. An inch of snow falls in the morning before a period of partly cloudy sky (with fog probable on the lower slopes). Another inch of snow falls this evening before the sky turns clear overnight. Wind: W 25 in the morning fades to WSW 15 in the afternoon and drops to 10mph or less overnight.
Tuesday starts with sunshine aloft and low clouds below, but it quickly clears. High clouds move in during the afternoon, and snow starts up in the evening. The free air freezing level will be 0′ near Mt. Hood in the morning. It holds there during the day. Temps at 5000′ rising from the mid 20s to the upper 20s or low 30s after midnight. About 0..4” water equivalent (WE) is forecast overnight. Call it 3-4” of dense snow.
On Wednesday, the snow level near Mt. Hood starts low thanks to easterlies, but snow quality will be dense thanks to rather warm temps aloft. Daytime temps will be right near freezing, and may rise as high as 34F overnight. Sounding model calls for a snow level of 4500′, but I think we could see some mixed precipitation at 5000′ and even higher if the incoming system doesn’t shift from the current predicted path. Vote for it to drop south, please. About 1.1” WE is forecast during the day as dense snow. Call it 7-9”. Overnight, another 0.4” WE is forecast. That could be mixed precip, and it could be wet snow. Depends on how lucky we get. Wind: WSW 20-30 in the morning, ditto in the afternoon, and WSW 35 overnight.
Thursday looks mostly dry with just little precip in the afternoon and overnight. The snow level will be 4500′ in the morning and will rise to 6500′ after midnight with 5000′ temps rising to +3C, the mid-upper 30s. Just a trace of snow falls during the day. After midnight, just 0.1” WE falls as (probably) mixed precip. Wind: WSW 35 in the morning, SW 15-20 in the afternoon, SE 20 in the evening, and S 15-25 after midnight. As of right now, Friday looks to bring heavier mixed precip in the morning followed by heavy snowfall in the afternoon and near-blizzard conditions with cold, dry snow piling up overnight. Heavy snowfall keeps going on Saturday and tapers off on Sunday. After that: probably some dry weather for a while. Whew! Get out there and get yourself some powder turns!
Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! Winter westerlies sure are tricky to predict! Fortunately, there’s not much to predict today. We’ll have light westerlies, 10mph or less, all day long, all the way from Stevenson to Arlington. River flow over the last 24 hours was 104-152kcfs, river temp is 45.14F, and high temp forecast is 45F.
Tuesday brings back the easterlies. The day starts with 15mph at both Stevenson and Iwash (Rooster) Rock. Those easterlies slowly build to 25mph at Iwash and 15-20mph at Stevenson after 1pm. High temp: 40F with sun in the morning, high clouds in the afternoon, and rain from late afternoon on. Wednesday looks very wet and potentially snowy, but there will be easterlies: 25-30mph at Iwash and 15mph at Stevenson. High temp: probably mid 30s. Easterlies stick around on Thursday and Friday before we see a slight chance of west wind Saturday. Have a great day today!

Cycling Update
Trails have been a mix of frozen, hoar-frost (unrideable), and freeze-thaw. When it’s wet and muddy, or when there are freeze-thaw conditions, please don’t ride, or you’ll do significant trail damage. Then peeps have to fix your mess rather than building new trails. Nobody wants that! Everyone wants new trails. Be a good steward, and pick a different activity
Remember: E-bikes are not allowed on USFS non-moto trails. They are allowed on moto trails.
Make Today Awesome!
Whether you’re shredding fresh powder on Mt. Hood, surfing swell on the Columbia, or just enjoying our stunning home… remember that every day here is a gift. Make the most of it.
Have an absolutely epic day out there!
