Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

There are clouds above the volcano this morning, and those clouds will degenerate into rain by late morning. The snow level today will be 5000′ early and 6500′ in the afternoon and overnight. We’ll see an inch or two of wet snow before a switch to rain. All told, we’ll have a couple inches of snow (max) followed by 1/4” of rain by Saturday morning. Wind today (Friday) will be SW 20 in the morning and SW 35 in the afternoon with SW 45 after midnight.

Rain continues Saturday morning before a switch to snow mid-morning. The snow level will be 6500′ early, 2500′ mid-morning, 2000′ overnight, and down near the surface after the sky clears around midnight. We’ll see .7” water value (WV) between 5am and 5pm, for 1/3”-1/2” rain and 2-3” of snow. We’ll see another .3” WV overnight, for 3-4” of new snow. Wind on Saturday will be SW 45 early and W 30 from mid-morning on, finally dropping after midnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Sunday looks dry, clear, sunny and cool. The free air freezing level will be near the surface in the morning and at 2500′ in the afternoon and evening. Wind will be W 10 in the morning, light and variable during the day, and SW 10 after midnight.

Monday looks partly cloudy during the day with light sprinkles overnight. The snow level will be 2500′ in the morning and 7000′ in the afternoon and evening. Wind will be SW 10-15.

Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Friday, and we’ll have east wind at 30ish at Rooster all day with E 20ish at Steven’s Locks. Saturday looks interesting… light and variable wind in the morning gives way to strong westerlies in the afternoon as a system moves east and high pressure builds over the Pacific. The western Gorge, Cascade Locks to Rowena, is likely to stay under the clouds with gusty W 18-22+. If you head east of The Dalles, you’re going to find W 28-32 after 11am. Be prepared for debris in the water and very cold water: 41.6 degrees at Bonneville.

Random Morning Thoughts

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s a cloudy morning and the rain is currently staying to the west. That should change mid-morning. Expect rain from mid-morning on, heavy at times. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light and variable wind early turns to W 10-13 after 2pm. 99% chance of rainbows. Thursday looks mostly cloudy early and partly cloudy later. Temps will be in the upper 30’s in the morning and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Light west wind. No rainbows. Friday looks dry through about 3pm after which moderate to heavy rain arrives. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

It’s a dry morning, and I’m thinking if you move fast you’ll find good dirt at Syncline and maybe at Columbia Hills too. But you’d better move fast because rain is on the way. Sunday, that looks pretty good in the afternoon, assuming it doesn’t frost too hard on Sunday morning. As for road biking, you can now ride all the low elevation rides, although the Twin Tunnels could use several passes by a road sweeper. Maybe take your cross bike? And remember that there’s a cross ride at Dirty Fingers at 3pm on Saturday.

Upcoming Events

It’s Friday, and we’ve already missed the 7am Kickstand Coffee run, which is sad, because there’s something delightful about running 4.1 miles to earn a cup of coffee and a donut. Looking at tomorrow, I suspect the tri club is going to attempt a run in Post Canyon at 8am, but I haven’t heard any official word. Double Mountain’s 10th anniversary party is tomorrow. Gorge Owned has a Cash Mob downtown in at least Hood River and The Dalles to support local businesses impacted by the snow this winter. There’s a seed exchange at Rockford Grange from 2-5pm tomorrow. At 3pm, it’s the Cold Lap cyclocross ride at Dirty Fingers.

Have an awesome day today!
