Thank you for using this forecast. Like it? Find it useful? Support it (and me!) by sending some cash my way. Why should you keep doing this when you’re under a stay-at-home order? Because my bills don’t stop – I hope you’ll consider contributing even though the world has ground to a standstill. That’ll keep the forecast going through this crisis, and it’ll mean the forecast is here when we all emerge from our homes. What’s it cost to support me and get the email version? Not $99 a year. Nope. Not $49. Just $19.99 or more gets you a year. Click below to contribute. Thank you!!

Statement on Racial Justice
I pledge to speak out against racism, and I pledge to be a humble ally who is willing to look at the ways that I benefit personally from racist structures in this society. I will continue to speak up and help wake up others, and I will listen quietly when people of color need me to.
I ask that all of you also reflect on the ways you benefit from racist societal structures. I recommend reading “White Fragility” and “How to be an Anti-Racist”. Don’t have much time? Read “Unpacking the Knapsack of White Privilege”. Watch the movie “13th”. When others confront you about your racism, take a deep breath, listen quietly, and attempt to quell your natural defensiveness. We have been raised in a society founded on slavery and racism. These values (and yes, some people hold them as values) remain entrenched in our society in subtle and not-so subtle ways. I challenge you to learn to see them so that you can learn to undo them. We can’t undo the damage that’s been done, and we don’t have the right to ask for forgiveness, but we can work to create a more equitable world going forward.

Gorge Wind Forecast
Oregon and Washington are encouraging people to not travel more than 50 miles (not mph!) to access recreation. Non-essential travel is still being strongly discouraged in ALL jurisdictions. Land managers and law enforcement are carefully watching to see if people maintain social distancing. If crowding happens, water access will be revoked. If you are local and lucky enough to have water access in your community, please do this: rig, play, leave. There is NO camping allowed at any of the river parks. Please don’t camp unlawfully; doing so risks access for everyone, including for people who just want to use the parks for a picnic. Please follow the directions of your local government officials and help keep the Gorge community safe. Thank you!
Gusty westerlies continue for the next few days. Friday and Saturday’s wind will be affected by a passing front, and Sunday’s wind may be impacted by upper level flow that turns quite northerly in the afternoon. With those caveats out of the way, the wind will be here to support you on this summer solstice weekend! Friday starts out very light, nearly calm. By 11am or so, we should see the westerlies pick up to 11-13 from Stevenson to the Hatchery, with Hood River and Mosier falling in to place soon afternoon. As a front nears the coast this afternoon and temps soar in the desert, westerlies pick up to gusty 17-20 from Stevenson to The Dalles. River flow is 289kcfs and temp is 59 degrees.
That front moves inland Saturday morning and shifts towards and over the Gorge in the afternoon. Light rain is a possibility at least to Hood River with sprinkles possible out east. Westerlies start the morning at 10-14 from Stevenson to Biggs. They’ll pick up after the front moves through, say 2pm or so. You’ll find 13-16 from Stevenson to Mosier (with rain?) and gusty 22-25 from Lyle to Rufus (also not super reliable wind).
High pressure builds offshore on Sunday, taking a tilt that favors the coast but not so much the Gorge. Morning westerlies start at 10-13 from Stevenson to Arlington. Afternoon: gusty 21-25 from Stevenson to Avery – this setup benefits Stevenson – and also 13-16 at Rufus.
