Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′
4a-8a 8a-12p 12p-4p 4p-8p 8p-4a
Sunday
Monday
Tuesday

Good morning!

Today looks like a nice, cold, snowy day on Mt. Hood with the freezing level at 1500′ early, 2000′ midday, and 500′ in the evening. NOAA is calling for 7-11” of new snow today, but I’m not sure I see that with the SW wind direction and only .1-.3” water value on the GFS precip model. Wind will be SW 30-35 early, 35-40 midday, and 25-30 in the evening. We’ll see 2-4” of new snow during the day today, followed by flurries this evening and overnight, with a chance of starbreaks tonight.

Monday starts off mostly cloudy, with snow starting by 7am. The snow level will be 1000′ early, 2500′ at 11am, 4500′ at 1pm, 4000′ at 4pm and 1000′ at 7pm. Despite the nominally OK freezing level, I think there’s a pretty good chance of mixed precipitation between 2pm and 10pm, likely of the freezing rain variety. Wind will be SW 30-35 early, rising to 40-45 by 7am, 50-60 by 11am, 60-70 by 4pm, before dropping to 40-50 in the evening. The SW direction of the strong wind shouldn’t cause too much trouble with chairlifts, despite the scary speeds forecast for ridgetops. Back to the precip issue, we’ll get .3-.5” between 7am and 4pm, for 2-3” of new, assuming it stays mostly snow. Between 4pm Monday and 4am Tuesday, we’ll get another .6-.9” WV, for 5-7” of new snow with some other precip thrown in.

Tuesday looks like a nice ski day, with the snow level at 1000′ all day. Wind will be SW 25-30 early, rising to 30-35 by 10am and holding all day. We’ll get .3-.4” WV between 4am and 4pm, for 4-5” of new snow. We’ll see flurries overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.

Wednesday starts off with high overcast skies with precip starting around 2pm, becoming heavy by 4pm. The snow level starts off at less than 1000′, rising to 4000′ by 2pm and 5500′ by 7pm. At this point, it looks like this round of precip will come in as rain, but we’ll have to wait a day or two to know for sure. Even then, nothing’s really for sure. It’s the weather, right?

Your wind forecast includes west wind at 23-26 in the eastern Gorge today with gusty 15-18 in the western Gorge. Next chance for wind is easterlies on Tuesday.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′
4a-8a 8a-12p 12p-4p 4p-8p 8p-4a
Saturday
Sunday
Monday

Good morning!

We’re seeing a bit of a mix of precip on Mt. Hood this morning, with sleet alternating with snow and the snow level right at 5000′ with rain for the drive up. At this point, models suggest the snow level will continue to drop, but I still think we’ll see mixed precip types until 1pm or so, as the freezing level bounces around between 2500′ and 5000′, before dropping to 3000′ by 10pm. Wind will be SW 30-35 pretty much all day. Total precip will be .2” by 4pm, for maybe 1” of new, depending on precip type, with precip tapering off between 4pm and 10pm. After that, we’ll see .6” water value (WV) between 10pm and 4am for 5-7” of new snow by Sunday morning.

Sunday looks quite snowy, with the snow level at 2000′ early, dropping to 500′ by 4pm. Wind will be SW 30-35 early, picking up to 45-50 by 4pm and 30-35 by 10pm. We’ll see .5-.6” WV during the day, for 6-8” of new by 4pm. We’ll see another .1-.2” WV overnight for another 1-3” of snow.

Monday starts off with the snow level at 1000′, rising to 2000′ by 10am and 4500′ by 1pm, dropping back to 2000′ by 4pm and all the way down to the surface at 10pm. We’ll see .1-.2” WV early, for 1-2” of new, and then heavy precip between 2pm and 4am Tuesday, for 8-12” of new. It’s worth nothing that the track of this storm may be conducive to a period of rain or freezing rain between 1pm and 4pm. Even if that doesn’t happen, we’ll see strong wind: SW 30-35 early, 45-50 by 7am, 45-60 by 10am, 60-70 at 1pm and back down to 40-60 by 4pm.

Tuesday looks cold and snowy, with flurries during the day, the freezing level at 500-1000′ and SW wind at 20-30mph.

We’ll see more precip on Wednesday and Thursday, but we’ll have to wait a day or two for more details. Have a great day.

Windsurfers and kiters will enjoy strong west wind in the eastern Gorge tomorrow with rainy 17-20 in the western Gorge.
