In wind news today, we’ve fully switched to an easterly pattern, with beautiful Indian Summer weather during the day and cool nights in the desert. That gave us easterlies in the low twenties at Stevenson yesterday, and we’ll have easterlies at 30+ today at Stevenson and Rooster.
The east winds will hold in the super-strong range tomorrow too. In the central Gorge, the wind will start off light in the morning, picking up to 5-10 on the river in the afternoon with 10-15 on the ridgetops and in the upper valleys away from the river on both days.
The easterlies start backing off late Thursday afternoon, fading to no wind at all on Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, we should see westerlies at 13-15. If the long-range forecast holds, we’ll see westerlies in the mid-twenties on Saturday, but Sunday’s forecast is a bit iffy at this point, so we’re going to play wait-and-see.
In events this evening, you can head to OMSI to hear a lecture on the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, brought to you by the weather geeks of Oregon. I know. It sounds dumb to you. It sounds great to me.
In the Gorge, it’s the Wednesday night shop paddle with the Kayak Shed, meeting at Husum around 5:30. The girls of mountain biking go for their final group ride leaving Dirty Fingers at 5:30. Also tonight, you can sail boats out of the Hood River Yacht club with the Wednesday night races.
Coming up this weekend, head to Cascade Locks and cheer on the Cyclocross racers at the DoubleCross cyclocross race, previously held in Hood River, and now held in the Gorge’s new recreation capital. We tried to give them the casino. They decided on something way more rad (although having a casino to visit at midnight could be fun too, as much fun as a night-ride-friendly trail like easyCLIMB).
Also this weekend in bike world, Dirty Fingers hosts free demos of next year’s Kona Bikes. Coming up next weekend, it’s the Dirty Fingers annual customer appreciation party and campout. Call the shop for more details on either of those events.
