If you’re looking for wind today, there won’t be much this morning. The gradient is weak, and so is the wind. We’ll get 8-13 through mid-morning, slowly picking up to 15-18 this afternoon near Hood River. Tomorrow looks like the windy day this week, as high pressure off the coast drives westerlies across the region. You can expect westerlies near Hood River at 21-24 in the morning, picking up to 24-26 midday and holding through evening from Hood River to The Dalles. We’ll see westerlies at 15-18 on Saturday picking up a little bit more on Sunday.

If you’re looking for something to do tonight, there’s the May Street Block Party from 3:30-6 this evening. That includes swimming and the farmers market and music. For something active tonight, there’s SUP Thursday at the Gorge Kayak School from 6-8, with free demos and lessons. I believe this is the last SUP Thursday. If you’re already tired from playing this week (For example, I’m tired from riding to Kingsley yesterday), there’s a recovery road ride leaving Discover Bikes at 6pm.

Coming up this weekend, it’s customer appreciation time at Windance on Saturday night. Bring yourself and your friends for an end-of-season party with food and drinks and music by local teen bands Toy Gun Conspiracy and Walter and the Conquerers. Then on Sunday, it’s CGWA’s last swap meet of the year at the Hood River Expo Center parking lot. Last chance to clean out your garage before the winter gear takes over…

Tomorrow’s forecast status: So sorry guys. I hit “save” instead of “publish” this morning. My apologies.

Today’s going to be our first taste of fall weather, with a low pressure system swinging across the Cascades leaving clouds and cooler weather. With the marine clouds pushing all the way past Hood River this morning, and light gradients, we’ll still see some wind. Expect 14-17 this morning from Stevenson to Mosier, picking up to 16-19 by mid-morning and holding, with wind available for your riding pleasure from Hood River to The Dalles this afternoon.

Tomorrow starts with westerlies at 10-15 near Hood River, slowly rising to 17-21 early afternoon from Stevenson to Hood River as high pressure builds off the coast. Friday looks like 17-21, and Saturday/Sunday bring westerlies in the low twenties, with the wind mainly focused near Hood River.

As always on Wednesday night, there’s a lot to choose from: It’s the final family mountain biking night at Family Man this evening at 5:30. Also tonight, the women’s mountain bike ride out of Dirty Fingers Bike Repair at 5:30, Sailboat racing at the Hood River Marina at 6:15, and the Kayak Shed’s shop paddle on the White Salmon, currently running right around 2 ¼ feet.

On Saturday, it’s the start of BTA’s bike commute challenge. Ride your bike to work during September and earn prizes from local businesses. On Labor Day, it’s the annual Roy Webster Cross-Channel swim. It’s full, but they’re still looking for volunteers. Email admin@hoodriver.org for information on helping out with the event.

Finally, on Saturday night from 6-9 it’s the Windance Customer Appreciation party with bbq and beer and music by local bands Walter and the Conquerers and Toy Gun Conspiracy. Don’t stay out too late, because the last swap meet of the year is Sunday morning bright and early.
