Good morning Gorge sports fanatics!
First off today, best of luck to the Race Across Oregon riders. These racers ride 516 miles over the next two days, nonstop. The 23 solo riders left at 5am, and the teams take off at 9am. You can follow the racers at RaceAcrossOregon.com.
Non racers meet at mountain view at 8am and women riders can meet at Dirty Fingers at 8:30 for certifiably sane group rides.
Winds start out light today, but with Portland buried under clouds, weak winds won’t last. It’s 15-18 this morning building to 17-21 by midday. As the desert heat takes over, winds keep climbing. I think we’ll see 24-28 late today from Hood River out to Rowena, possibly out to Arlington. If the timing is right, we’ll see stronger winds, but that requires weather perfection.
As the upper low slides east tonight, winds don’t stop. Dawn patrol is the call tomorrow, with 23-26 from Doug’s eastward. Winds build and build tomorrow, eventually hitting the 30-35 range in the eastern Gorge.
Monday looks windy too, with high pressure off the coast and low pressure in the desert. Quite frankly, I think we’re looking at a couple of epic days!
In other news, Francisco Goya entertains you with a windsurfing clinic at Windance this morning and a windsurfing BBQ at Windance tonight. For seated fun, try the outdoor showing of the movie Big at Jackson Park.
Whatever you do today, have an awesome day, and get plenty of sleep tonight!

Good morning all my gorgeous gorge-y friends!

An upper level low does the disco dance off the Oregon Coast for the next couple of days, turning upper flow southerly and keeping Gorge winds, what little there will be, gusty. That southerly flow powers afternoon thunderstorms as well. This certainly isn’t the ideal setup for Gorge windsurfing.

So, today looks light, with southerly flow setting up minimal marine clouds in Portland. At best, we’ll see afternoon thermals in the 15-18 range, but I’d say that’s pretty unlikely.

Tomorrow looks light, with southerly flow firing thunderstorms through the Cascades. If you’re looking for non-wind entertainment Saturday morning, swing by Windance for a clinic with Francisco Goya. Wind permitting, tag along for free board and sail demos, and then, join Mr. Goya for a BBQ at Windance from 6 to 10. Also Saturday evening is the movie “Big” at Jackson Park in Hood River.

As the upper low slides east on Saturday night, Gorge westerlies team up with the thunderstorms. Don’t stay out too late, because Sunday looks windy. It’s hard to say this far out what the wind will do, but low pressure in the desert is generally a good thing for the Gorge.

Now, you mountain bikers, Mitchell at Dirty Fingers has a new twist on Falls Creek, turning it from a `17 mile ride to a 27 mile pleasure fest. Find the details under the mountain biking section of this website.

Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
