Good morning!
This week’s report is brought to you by Crossfit Hood River , where your gym workout becomes a party with friends! I bet you’re wondering what this Crossfit stuff is… it’s a high-intensity workout including all sorts of activities, done at your pace, the faster the better. Why? Because this sort of workout pushes your limits, allowing you to work out longer (no matter what you’re doing) without succumbing to the evils of fatigue. If you’ve never tried Crossfit, it’s time. You can drop in for a free workout at the not-gym at 1816 Belmont to check it out. Class times are Mon-Fri at 6:30am, Mon-Sat at 9am, and Mon-Thur at 5:30pm. One of you is going to win a free month membership this week!
It’s looking very fall-like this morning, with clouds in the sky and rain in the forecast. This is a great forecast for the dusty trails and for the firefighters out in Lyle, but it’s not so great if you want to go windsurfing or kiting today. An upper level low was working its way across Oregon at 8am, and the west gradient was only at .04. As the low shifts across the Cascades around midday, west winds will pick up a bit. We should see 15-19 from Stevenson to Hood River, with 17-21 possible east of Lyle. It’s going to be gusty and rainy on the water today.
Another system pushes through tomorrow, bringing more rain and another day of light and gusty wind. The best chance for getting on the water tomorrow is late in the afternoon as high pressure builds in from the coast. Gusty19-23 in the central Gorge seems pretty likely late in the day tomorrow.
With the rain and cool temperatures today, you can forget about high-elevation hiking or biking or climbing, because the snow level is right around 7000 feet. You’ll freeze your ass off if you head to the mountains today!
If you’re looking for something to do tonight, there’s Tai Chi at Wilson Park in Hood River, the Alternative Ride out of Mountain View Cycles, and co-ed touch rugby in Parkdale, through Hood River Community Ed.
Boaters, the White Salmon’s at 1.85 feet. The Klickitat River is currently closed to recreation until the banks can be evaluated for erosion and other dangers. The earliest this will happen is on Wednesday. On a brighter note, the Lyle sandbar is open to recreation on days when it’s too windy for the helicopter to fly.
That’s it for today. Whatever you do today, have an awesome day!
