The endless repetition continues: Today will be sunny, with the freezing level near 10000’. Mt. Hood wind will be light NE in the morning, going to light S in the afternoon.

In tomorrow’s forecast, it will be clear in the morning (perfect for viewing the eclispse), becoming partly cloudy to cloudy in the afternoon. The freezing level will be 9000’ early, falling to 5000’ by 1pm and then 1000’ by 4pm. Windspeeds will be SW 15-20 early, picking up to 20-30 by 1pm and switching to W 20-25 by 4pm.

Total snowfall Saturday night into Sunday will be less than 1”. On Sunday morning, we’ll have partly cloudy to cloudy skies, becoming clear in the afternoon. The freezing level will be at 1000’, dropping to the surface in the Gorge by 10pm. The wind will be N 5-10 early, going to NE 20-25 by 1pm and E 25-30 by 10pm.

Monday looks dry with E wind and a possible developing inversion. Tuesday into Wednesday may bring an inch or so. Next chance for significant snowfall is Thursday.

If you live in the Gorge, expect snow flurries Saturday night into Sunday morning.

In fun events over the next few days, the “Dimwits With Bright Lights” ride laps on the Cascade Locks EasyCLIMB trail starting at 6:15 tonight, with weenie roasting and s’more making after. For you surfers, there’s a 5ft W swell at 20 seconds, and that will build to 7ft at 20 seconds today with 5-15mph wind at the coast. Tomorrow morning between 5am and 6:50am or so, there’s a full lunar eclipse, visible above the valley fog to the southwest. During the day tomorrow, my friend Sam Cordell is teaching a $25 Nordic skate skiing clinic at Meadows. However, there’s also a free Nordic demo day at Teacup from 11-2 Saturday, along with free lessons.

Wind news: it’s ripping down at Rooster this morning, and Stevenson should be ripping today too, with the gradient at E .20. Next chance for wind is another round of easterlies Monday morning.

Have an awesome day today!

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Thursday
Friday
Saturday

Some hope is on the horizon. All the models are starting to converge on this ever-so-annoying (other than the beautiful sunshine) blocking ridge breaking down sometime around the middle of next week.

However, today looks sunny. The freezing level will be 8500’ early, rising to 10,000’ in the afternoon. Winds will be E 5-10, going to light and variable late.

Friday looks sunny, with the freezing level around 10000’ all day and all evening. Winds will be NE 5-10, going to SW 5-10.

For the lunar eclipse early Saturday morning, we should have clear skies. Clouds will move in midday. The freezing level will be 8500’ early, dropping to the surface by 4pm as an incoming system clears out the inversion. Winds will be SW 10-20 early, rising to SW 20-30 by 4pm and going to NW 25-35 by 7pm.

Our best chance for snow is Saturday night into Sunday morning, when we may (if we’re lucky) see up to 2”, but most likely 1” of new snow with the snow level at the surface in the Gorge. It will be cloudy on Sunday morning, becoming clear late in the afternoon. Winds will be WNW 30-40 early, swinging around to NE 20-25 by 4pm.

If the long-term models hold, we should see a solid snow system slam into Mt. Hood sometime during the day Tuesday. Whew. Finally!

For you windsurfers and kiters, it’s freezing out there, but it’s blowing in the upper teens at Stevenson and mid-twenties at Rooster. Tomorrow looks windier, with 25-28 at Stevenson and 30+ at Rooster.

Best outdoor activity this week? Dimwits with Bright Light at the Cascade Locks EasyCLIMB trail. 6:15pm Friday. Bring hot dogs, a stick, and s’more fixings.

Have an awesome day today!
