Good morning!

Today looks quite lovely on Mt. Hood, with sunshine and light wind. The valleys will suffer today, with the Nothing hanging in the sky, sending people to the psychiatrist’s office for a dose of Prozac. But that’s depressing. Back to Mt. Hood, where the sun will shine: we’ll see W wind at 10-20 today, fading to light and variable by midday. The atmosphere will be quite stable today, with the temp hovering around 32 all the way up to 8500’ or so. No precip today.

Tomorrow starts off with clear skies and the freezing level around 7000’, dropping to 5500’ by 7pm and falling to around 1500’ overnight. We’ll see clouds move in around 4pm and .1-.2” water value for 1-3” of snow overnight. Winds will be W 5-10 early, picking up to W 25-35 by 7pm and going to NW 25-35 overnight.

Things get really interesting on Wednesday. We’ll see light flurries early, becoming partly cloudy by noon and sunny by early afternoon. The freezing level will be around 2000’. Here’s the fun part: early morning wind will be NW 30-40, swinging to NNW. Then by 1pm, we’ll have NNE wind at 30-35, becoming NE 30-40 by 7pm. This could cause issues on the slopes, as I’m likely underestimating the strength. We’ll also see compressional heating and downslope acceleration as a stable layer sets up in the atmosphere around 8000’. At least it’s not at 11,000’, which would cause a true downslope storm like we had on a clear Friday last year.

Thursday looks clear and cool and dry with east wind at 30-40, fading to 20-30 by 1pm.

If you are looking for wind sports, Tuesday starts off with east wind at 15-18, switching to west 15-18 by 3pm. Wednesday sees W wind at 22-24 east of Hood River, dying in the afternoon. Thursday brings, big, big east wind at Stevenson and Rooster, likely too windy to sail at Rooster.

Good morning!

At least it’s a beautiful start to the day, with another gorgeous lenticular cloudy on the top of Mt. Hood! The freezing level this morning is somewhere way up high around 8000’. That will drop to 5000’ by 1pm and further fall to 1500’ by 7pm, making for some interesting post-frontal wind. We’ll see .6” of precip between noon and 10pm. Call it .4” of r**n and 2” of wet snow. Winds will be SW 30-40 early, picking up to WSW 40-50 by 1pm and going to a messy NW 40-50 by 7pm.

Tomorrow looks dry with the freezing level at 1000’ early and NW wind at 20-25. The wind will fade during the day, and the freezing level will rise to around 6000’.

Tuesday starts off dry and clear, with high clouds moving in late in the day and the freezing level around 2000’. The wind will be light early, picking up to W 20-25 by 1pm. Snow moves in overnight for .3” water value for 2-3” of new snow.

On Wednesday, we’ll see NW wind at 30-40 to start, swinging around to N and then strong E wind through Thursday, meaning we’ll have to watch for high winds on the slopes. At this point, the weather looks dry from Wednesday through next weekend.

If you are a windsurfer or kiter looking for wind, you’ll find W 24-28 in the desert this afternoon. You’ll find E 22-24 tomorrow morning at Stevenson and Rooster. Tuesday morning brings E 15-18, quickly switching to W 22-24 by 1pm. Expect big, big easterlies on Thursday.
