Gorge Wind Forecast
This really isn’t an ideal setup for Gorge wind. You see, there’s a low pressure system sitting right over our heads, and that leads to an unstable atmosphere and unreliable wind. Plus, a low pressure system over our heads keeps the cross-Cascade gradient from really developing. That said, we will see some wind over the next few days. Today, Friday, starts off light and variable with zero gradient. River flow is an impressive 459kcfs, temp is 53 degrees, and 1008 Chinook made it past Bonneville yesterday. Expect light and variable wind through noon or so. The westerlies will pick up to gusty 12-15 everywhere after 1pm, continuing until sunset. There will also be rain, especially in the western Gorge.
Saturday brings stronger wind, but it’ll still be gusty an unreliable with the unstable atmosphere. We’ll start off Saturday with light westerlies at 10mph or less. As a weather system moves eastward, the wind will pick up to gusty 20-23 by 1pm, probably from Mosier eastward out to Arlington. It’s possible you may have to drive further east than Mosier to get out from under the clouds. By 3pm, the wind will pick up to gusty 24-27. The western Gorge will be under the clouds again, with gusty 12-15. Did I mention it’s going to be gusty everywhere on Saturday?
On Sunday, we’ll still be sitting under low pressure. Still not an ideal setup. We’ll start the day with light westerlies or no wind at all. The wind will pick up a bit in the afternoon to gusty 12-15 everywhere.

Random Morning Thoughts
Being in love feels good. I think that’s a pretty universal thing, although there are probably some people out there who would argue with this proposition. Here’s the thing about love: we think of it as something that requires the assistance of another person, and that limits our opportunities to have that pleasant feeling.
It follows that expanding our capacity to love will expand our capacity to feel good, and that will expand our capacity to drawn in people we can love. So, take a moment to think of all the things you love: perfect dirt, steady wind, powder turns, wildflowers, white sprinter vans, sunshine, and the way you feel after a hard play day. Bask in the way you feel about your favorite trail or the best day ever.
If you do that basking thing a lot, you’ll find that you have more capacity for loving all things. See, you don’t need another person to feel in love, and falling in love with the world will make you more attractive to the people around you. I love you. Have an awesome day.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
Huh… according to HRW, it didn’t rain yesterday, so perhaps the trails are good to go. It was POURING west of here last night. Anyway, go ride. Rowena Curves is still closed due to massive rockfall. Larch Mountain has snow a mile from the top. Dog River, Nestor, and Post are all clear to the top. HRATS have a work party meeting Saturday at Family Man at 9:30. Not 9. I get that wrong every time!
Upcoming Events
There’s only one event on the schedule today, and that’s the weekly donut and coffee run at Kickstand at 7. Jog or walk four miles for a free cup of coffee and a donut.
Tomorrow’s run is a bit harder – it’s the Stevenson to Carson Ridge Run. 10 miles and over 2000′ of elevation gain in the rain. Head to Backwoods Brewing to cheer on the finishers. There’s also a trail run in Post Canyon at 8 and an HRATS work party at Family Man at 9:30. Mt. View Cycles has a women’s road bike ride that meets at the shop at 9, and there’s a free meditation retreat at Yoga Samadhi at 1.
Looking at next weekend, there’s a work party on the Buck Creek trail, an equestrian endurace race in Trout Lake, and a dressage show at the Hood River Saddle Club.
Have an awesome day today!
