Cascade Kiteboarding – Learn to Kite!

When you are learning to kiteboard, you don’t want your time wasted with instructors yelling through wind noise and making you walk back up the beach with your kite. Cascade Kiteboarding uses 2-way bluetooth helmets for instant feedback, clear instruction, and expedited learning. We run our Water Lessons away from the crowds of the sandbar, west of Wells Island, and follow you with one of our 3-person jet skis for ALL Water Lessons. We use only the top 2017 & 2016 kite gear with laser-like focus on safety and ease of use. This is what makes up the Cascade Kiteboarding difference. It’s time to learn. Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

We’ve come upon that time of year when the snow is falling but the chairlifts aren’t turning. Except at Timberline, that is. They are open for you all week long. Meadows returns on Friday. Skibowl won’t return until the Adventure Park opens, which ain’t going to be soon if it keeps snowing up there! Anyway, expect a very snowy day on Mt. Hood. The snow level will be 3000′ early, 4500′ in the afternoon, and 2500′ after midnight. We’ll see about 1” water value (WV) during the day, for 9-11” of new snow. Another .5” falls tonight, for 4-6” of additional snow. Wind today will be SW 15 early, becoming NW 20-25 in the evening and overnight.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued

Tuesday may start off with sunshine or sun and a few flurries. Clouds move in during the afternoon and precip starts up around 5pm. Although it may start as snow, it will quickly switch to heavy rain, continuing through Wednesday morning. We’ll see about 2” rain overnight. Wind will be NW 15 early, SW 20 in the afternoon, and W 35 in the evening and overnight, contributing orographic enhancement to the already heavy precip rate.

Wednesday also contains a lot of moisture and wind. The snow level will be 6500′ early, dropping to 3500′ around 11am and 1000′ after midnight. We’ll see 1”+ precip between 5am and 5pm, the bulk of which will fall as rain, but the latter half of which will fall as snow. Let’s say 3-4” of snow by 5pm. Another .5”+ falls overnight (orographic effects could as much as double that), for 5-7” of snow by Thursday morning. Wind on Wednesday will be W 40 pretty much all day. Orographic snowfall continues on Thursday with the snow level around 2000’… perhaps another 6-8” of snow. Winter ain’t over yet, at least not at 5000′!

Gorge Wind Forecast

We’re starting off this soggy Monday with light easterlies. We’ll spend most of the day with light and variable wind. As this weather system finally moves through in the afternoon, the wind will pick up, probably after 5pm. Expect W 22-25 east of The Dalles late today with gusty W 12-15 or less west of The Dalles. Tuesday sees W 7-11 from Stevenson to Mosier early with W 15-18 further east. The wind will bounce up and down during the day, finally fading to W 5-10 everywhere after 2pm. In other words, it won’t be a great day to get on the water – very low wind quality.

Wednesday’s looking quite interesting: after a weather system moves through early, the East Pacific High builds off the coast. If today’s model run is correct, we’ll see W 30-35 from Moiser to Threemile from 11am on. The western Gorge will probably be stuck in the clouds with very gusty 22-27. In a fun twist, the EPH is forecast to stick around for a couple of days, giving us 26-30 both Thursday and Friday. Fingers crossed!

Random Morning Thoughts

This is a very impressively wet spring we’re having here in the PNW, and it’s about to get even wetter. Yay. The wildflowers and grass and poison oak seem quite pleased by all of this. Whether you’re pleased or not, you can at least generate some awe around this by reading Cliff Mass’ blog post about the incoming JAWS of atmospheric rivers.

I don’t mean to suggest that we should turn every situation into a positive. Some things just suck, or at least mostly suck. But giving ourselves a break from the monotony of an unpleasant situation (nearly endless grey sky, for example) can up our overall mood. In other words, if you’re having a rough patch, break it up a little by using The Google to search for “cats in small boxes”. Or whatever it is that you find funny. Give yourself a moment’s respite, and then go on with your life.

So, as your watch the rain falling from the sky today, take a moment to see what Dr. Mass has to say about all this grey, rainy weather. You might just find yourself feeling amazed. Have an awesome day!

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

The amount of rain that’s coming in over the next couple of days is going to make all of our trails too wet to ride. And you’re probably not going to want to be out on the road either. But if you do, the best chance of dry weather is Tuesday morning.
