Thank you for using this forecast. I do it as a gift to the community because I want all of you to have more fun in your lives. We’re all busy people, and having an idea of when the snow, wind or dirt will be good allows us to plan ahead. Although I receive occasional support from advertisers, the bulk of my support comes from the generosity of my readers. If you’ve been using this for years, if it’s helpful, brings more fun into your life, or makes you happier in some way, please donate. $12.34 or more gets the forecast delivered to your inbox for a year (I’ll protect your info). Mt. Hood Snow Forecast.

It’s a rainy start to the day on Mt. Hood, but hey, at least the heaviest precip stayed to the north, tossing less than 2” of rain on the mountain yesterday. Expect rain this morning switching to snow tonight as the snow level drops from 9000′ early to 3000′ after midnight. We’ll see .2-.4” rain by 4pm, followed by .1-.2” WV that falls as snow tonight, for a couple inches of new snow. Wind today will be SW 50 early, slowly fading to SW 35 after midnight.

Friday brings steady light snowfall to the mountain with a chance of fog and sunbreaks in the afternoon. The snow level will be 3000′ early, dropping steadily during the day and landing at 500′ after midnight. We’ll see .4” WV by 4pm, for 3-5” of new snow. That’s followed by another .3-.4” WV overnight, for another 3-5” of snow. Wind on Fridya will be SW 35 early, turning to W 45 in the afternoon and dropping to WNW 35 after midnight.

Saturday starts off with some low and mid-level clouds, possibly setting up some fog on the lower slopes and sunshine on the higher slopes. One model throws in some orographic snow flurries too, so let’s keep that as an option with 1-2” of new snow possible. The snow level will be 500′ early, rising to 1500′ in the afternoon. Wind on Saturday will be WNW 35 early and NW 10-15 in the afternoon.

Sunday currently looks clear for most of the day with a chance of some thin high clouds in the afternoon. The free air freezing level will be 3000′ early and 9000′ in the afternoon. Wind on Sunday will be W 15 in the morning and WSW 15 in the afternoon and evening. As of right now, it’s looking like temps will stay quite warm on the mountain through at least the middle of next week.

Gorge Wind Forecast

East wind near Rooster at 30-35 this morning slowly fades to light east wind tonight. The wind will switch to westerly midday on Friday, rising to 23-26 near Cascade Locks, 13-16 from Hood River to The Dalles, and 23-26 east of The Dalles. Saturday brings light and variable wind.

Random Morning Thoughts

Sometimes things don’t go as planned. For example, the weather might decide to throw half a foot of snow and half an inch of ice your way. It’s quite easy to get frustrated with this, even though we can’t control it. One way of managing the frustration is to roll with reality.

Some people refer to this as “making the most of a situation”, but there’s a bit of blaming in that phrase. If you can reframe it as rolling with reality, you not only get some alliteration, you get to figure out a fun way to do that. I can’t tell you the best way for you – you get to do that.

Maybe there’s something small you’ve been wishing you had the time to do. You know, reading a book on the couch, watching a movie, taking a nap, having coffee with a friend… While the weather is beating you down (or any other time in life!), block off a period of time and dedicate it to that activity. During that time period, refuse to let anything other than your current good intention interfere with your fun plans.

All those stresses can come back in when the allotted period of fun or relaxation time ends. And no, you can’t block off time to clean the bathroom or the kitchen. That’s not what I mean by a fun and relaxing mini vacation in the midst of situations you can’t control. Find something awesome to do today. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
