Thank you for using this forecast. I do it as a gift to the community because I want all of you to have more fun in your lives. We’re all busy people, and having an idea of when the snow, wind or dirt will be good allows us to plan ahead. Although I receive occasional support from advertisers, the bulk of my support comes from the generosity of my readers. If you’ve been using this for years, if it’s helpful, brings more fun into your life, or makes you happier in some way, please donate. $12.34 or more gets the forecast delivered to your inbox for a year (I’ll protect your info). Anything over that makes both of us feel appreciative and appreciated, and also pays my grad school bills. Thanks for using the forecast, and thanks for your support. Mt. Hood Snow Forecast.
Well, as expected, that low came a little further north and temps shot up to 33 degrees on the slopes yesterday. The precip stayed further west, and the previously predicted massive snowfall didn’t arrive. So sad. Expect light snowfall today. The snow level will be around 1500′ or so all day. We’ll see about .4-.5” water value (WV) between 4am and 4pm, for 5-6” of fluffy new snow. Another inch or less falls overnight. Wind today will be W 45 early, turning to SW 40 midday and become WSW 40 in the afternoon. The wind will drop to SW 15 overnight.
Tuesday looks sunny in the morning, cloudy midday, and snowy for a period in the afternoon. The snow level will be down near the surface (in the Gorge, anyway), leading to dry, fluffy snow. We’ll see .2” WV between 4am and 4pm, for a 2-3” of new. No additional snow falls overnight. Wind on Teusday will be light and variable all day, picking up to SW 20 after midnight.
Wednesday looks quite interesting, and the precip quantities depend on the exact storm track. The Euro and the GFS are taking the heaviest precip just north of Mt. Hood, but a small shift in the storm track could double or triple the precipitation (rain) amounts. So, Wednesday starts out with the snow level at the surface. By 7pm, the free air snow level will be 8000′ (meaning a certain subset of lower elevations will be sub-freezing still). Between 10am and 4pm, about .2” WV falls as snow, for a couple inches of dense new snow. Between 4pm Wednesday and 4am Thursday, at least 1” of rain will fall. Wind during this period will starts as SW 20 in the morning and rise to SW 60 after midnight.
Thursday sees continued rain through midday, after which there will probably be just sprinkles as the storm track shifts to the north (hopefully). The snow level will be 9000′ in the morning, falling to 6500′ in the afternoon. About .5” rain falls during the day. Wind on Thursday will be SW 45 early and SW 35 in the afternoon. There’s some disagreement in the models about precip on late Thursday into Friday, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Gorge Wind Forecast
West wind at 17-20 this morning backs off a bit midday and rises back to W 17-20 this afternoon. Expect east wind at 20-25 on Tuesday. Easterlies at 30-35 on Wednesday morning pick up to E 45-50 in the afternoon. Thursday starts off with E 40 and backs off to light and variable in the afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m thinking this morning about communication, and what it is about how we convey ourselves that draws people in or pushes them away. One thing I’ve noticed is that speaking from our own frame of reference, rather than conveying a story about someone else, seems to be more engaging. Perhaps it’s because it’s directly relational, rather than being one step removed.
By this, I mean that when we talk about our lives, it can be more engaging to talk about our own experience, rather than what another person did. Rather than saying, “…and then he called me a name, and he’s such a bad person,” we’re more likely to find support and hold attention by saying, “…when he called me a name, I felt so hurt, and I wish things were different between us…”
Along the same lines, it can be tough to express our own needs. Often we express them in terms of someone else, for example, by saying, “… I just want him/her/them to be happy.” But that doesn’t convey details about what you want. Do you want connection with that person? Do you want them to see you as a good provider? How is it you know they are happy, and what does that do for you?
It can be quite difficult to express what we want or how we’ve been hurt. It’s much easier to reference another person. But by being vulnerable, we build connections with others and are more likely to get our needs met. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
