2015-03-20_10-37-58 M=C-Edit
There is exactly zero snow in the Mt. Hood forecast for the next couple days, but that’s okay, because we’ve already had above-average snowfall this season and now it’s time for some spring skiing. Expect sunshine all day today, Thursday. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 10,000′ all day long. Wind will be N 10-20 early and light and variable in the afternoon. Continued after the chart.

Sunday doesn’t look all that much different until after midnight. The day starts off sunny with the FAF around 10,000′. We’ll see clouds move in during the evening and precip start up after midnight. As of right now, it’s looking like the snow level will drop down to around 5000′ at the tail end of the system. With .8” water value on the way, you can expect a shot of rain followed by a couple inches of new snow on Monday morning. Wind on Sunday will be WSW 15 early and SSW 25-30 in the afternoon and evening.

Gorge Wind Forecast

We’re starting off Thursday with light and variable wind, and we’ll finish off Thursday with west wind at less than 10 mph. Friday starts off with light west wind and picks up to W 10-13, at most, in the afternoon. Saturday looks a bit windier. We should start off with W 11-14 or a touch more all the way from Stevenson to Arlington. In the afternoon, we’ll have W 21-24 from Stevenson to The Dalles, possibly at Maryhill too. Sunday starts off light and variable and picks up to gusty 10-13 in the afternoon. River water temp is currently 46 degrees. Keep that in mind, standup paddlers – I know y’all are going to be out in droves with the 70 degree temps!

Random Morning Thoughts

I was talking to a journalist the other day about some things that happened to me long ago, and she asked me a question that got me thinking. “Why do you think these people did these things to you?” she asked.

Part of the answer to that is “revenge”, but the larger picture, I think is a lack of self-connection and a total reliance on the advice of outside authority. Sure, outside advice can be helpful in some situations, especially those where we lack technical expertise. But in the realm of interpersonal relationships, we need to learn to hear our hearts and our instincts. There’s a lot of wisdom there.

When we experience a lot of doubt about our relationships and find ourselves asking others for advice, it’s a sign that something is seriously amiss. The tricky piece is that what’s amiss can be something within us, or something unkind being directed at us. It’s difficult to tell the difference. And often, seeking outside advice is a sign that we’re not trusting our hearts – the heart knows something is deeply wrong, and the heart knows whether it’s us, them or some combo, but for some reason we’re too scared to trust in ourselves.

There are no black and white answers to this, merely an observation that seeking outside advice from multiple sources is a sign that we’re not listening to our hearts. And that is a sign that we need to tune in and learn why we’re disconnected, what’s causing us to doubt our own feelings. The only way we can sort this out is to understand ourselves better, not to follow the advice of others. And sometimes we need help doing this, and that’s when a friendly therapist comes in really handy – they help people explore and grow, rather than giving advice.

So, if you find yourself turning to outside experts on matters of your own heart, take some time to cozy up with your heart. You might just find the answer was there all along. Have an awesome day!

Gorge Weather Forecast

Oh my f’ing goodness. What better awesomeness is there than this? Expect sunshine all day today with temps near 40 early and in the low 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind all day. Tomorrow looks just a touch warmer: mid 40’s early and mid 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind early, just a touch more west wind in the afternoon. Saturday may see some marine clouds in the morning, giving us partly cloudy sky, but sunshine returns by the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and the low 70’s in the afternoon. Sunday looks nearly identical to Saturday, but we’ll see some rain late Sunday night. No rainbows through Sunday. If you’re desperate for rainbows, be up with the sunrise on Monday.

Road and Mountain Biking

You will find epic dirt at Syncline, Post, Hospital and Whoopdee. That is all I have to say on that matter. On the road, you’ll find epic sunshine combined with light wind both Thursday and Friday. Saturday will be a better road biking day this weekend than will Sunday – too much wind on Sunday. The HRATS have a trail work party at Family Man at 9am on Sunday. There’s also a work party at the Whoopdee Sunday.

Upcoming Events

Today is Thursday. That means you have these fun options: Community yoga at 6pm at Samadhi. Community Zumba at the Parkdale Community Center at 6:30. Community Tai Chi at Our Savior Church in Bingen at 6:30. Tomorrow morning at 7am, it’s the Kickstand Coffee run, 4.1 miles of jogging that earns you a free cup of coffee and a donut.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the Gorge Roubaix bike race and gravel grinder ride are Saturday and Sunday out in The Dalles. The HRATS have a Post Canyon work party at 9am on Sunday, meeting at Family Man. There’s another work party at Whoopdee on Sunday. On Saturday evening from 5pm-9pm, the Dirty Harlots mountain bike race women’s team has their season kickoff party and fundraiser at Kickstand Coffee.

Have an awesome day today!
