See below for details.
Monday starts off with steady snowfall. Looks like we’ll see flurries in the evening. The snow level Monday will be 4000′ early, 5000′ in the evening, and 2500′ after 11pm. If the models are correct, we’ll see .4-.5” WV during the day, for 3-5” of dense new snow. Then we’ll see isolated flurries in the evening with no significant accumulation. Wind on Monday will be SW 20-25 all day, becoming W 30 after 11pm.
Tuesday’s models are a bit unclear, predicting a mix of sunshine and flurries. The snow level should be around 3000′ with WNW wind at 25-30.

Gorge Wind Forecast
Despite a much weaker gradient than yesterday – .13 today and .24 yesterday – the wind is much stronger. That’s because the easterlies are staying at river level, instead of mountain level. Anyway, expect 30-35 at Rooster and 20-25 at Stevenson this morning, fading to light east wind by mid-afternoon. Sunday starts off with light east wind, stays light for most of the day, and picks up to W 13-16 from Stevenson to The Dalles after 5pm. Monday looks light and variable. If the models are correct about Tuesday and Wednesday, we’re going to see relatively steady west wind, especially Tuesday, in the 23-26 range.
Random Morning Thoughts
I was out playing in my garden yesterday in the sunshine, mostly just puttering about pulling weeds. One of the lovely things about gardening is that it’s the kind of activity you can be serious about, and it’s also the kind of activity you can approach with a light touch. It can be real work, and it can also be playful fun.
It is, of course, entirely possible to approach most things in life this way. We have a choice to be serious. We also have a choice to be playful, even when approaching serious matters. We can even combine the two, being serious and playful at the same time.
I have this idea that when all the fun is gone, something is wrong in our worlds. When playfulness and curiosity disappears, it’s time to take a break. When all the fun is gone, we’ve been drawn into a space that’s harmful to our psyche. So… next time you notice you’re not having any fun at all, stop for a moment and look around. See if there’s some fun, even just a tiny, tiny bit, to bring into the moment. Just that little lightheartedness might have a huge impact on your day. Have an awesome day. Dangit… the RMTs aren’t doing a good job of staying on vacation, are they?

Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s overcast out there this morning, and shall likely remain so today, perhaps with some periods of filtered sun. If it weren’t pitch black outside my window as I was writing this, I could have a more educated opinion on the likelihood of tan-inducing photons, but no, it’s dark. Anyway, temps will be right around 40 early and in the upper 50’s this afternoon. Decreasing east wind as the day goes on. No rainbows.
Sunday looks cloudy to start with sprinkles and/or rain possible from 11am on through the evening. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the mid 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 79% chance of rainbows. Monday looks rainy to start and showery in the evening. Temps will be right around 40 early and in the low 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 67% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking
Someone told me yesterday that they saw Post Canyon mud all over some bikes downtown. That means that Post was too muddy to ride yesterday morning. Syncline, on the other hand, will be perfect, especially if you’re not afraid of ticks and poison oak. In road biking news, today will be overcast but lovely, with light wind and temps in the upper 50’s. Tomorrow also looks lovely – overcast, light wind, relatively warm – although there is a chance of showers after noon.
Upcoming Events
There’s a trail run in Post Canyon at 8am today, approximately 6 miles. Bring your mud shoes. Coming up Sunday, Meadows has a free ski and snowboard demo day. If you’re sticking around the Hood, there are many free yoga classes: 9am at Samadhi, 4pm at Pure Yoga in The Dalles and 6pm at Pure Yoga in Hood River. There’s also pickup touch rugby at the Mosier School at 3pm and Ping Pong at the Hood River Armory at 5pm.
Have an awesome day today!
