3/15 MORE POWDER!!! And sun later this week.

DSC_4359
Happy Tuesday. It’s another ridiculous powder day on the slopes of our volcano, and all three ski resorts will be off the charts today. The only place, however, with off the charts nachos is Skibowl. Anyway, nachos aside, expect deep powder today with continued snowfall through the afternoon. The snow level today will be right around 1500′ all day. We’ll see .3”-.4” water value (WV) between this morning and 5pm, for another 3-5” of fluffy snow. We’ll see another inch or so tonight in light, intermittent snowfall. Wind today will be W 30-35 this morning and WNW 20-25 this afternoon. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Depending on where you look on this Tuesday morning, there’s light to moderate west wind. You can expect the westerlies to pick up to 11-14 or so by midday, holding through the afternoon. You’ll find those westerlies all the way from Steven’s Locks to Arlington. Wednesday starts out with light and variable wind and picks up to 13-16 after 4pm from Steven’s Locks to The Dalles. Thursday starts with E 20-25 and picks up to E 40 in the afternoon.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m guessing a few of you out there have struggled to get fit at some point in your life. Fitness and body image are interesting things, aren’t they? For example, our body image can fluctuate rapidly without the numbers on the scale fluctuating at all (let’s leave out the weight difference between muscle and fat for now, shall we?).

When we have a bad day, we may look in the mirror and think we’re not where we want to be. If our mood changes, even a short while later, we may look in the mirror and think the opposite.

For many people, body image takes up a lot of emotional space, so it’s important to understand this phenomenon: Our overall mood can impact our interpretation of specifics. When we feel crappy, we’re likely to see things in a poor light, and when we feel good, the opposite is likely. This doesn’t just happen with body image, of course, it happens with our entire existence.

It’s important to be in touch with ourselves so we’re aware of how we’re interpreting the world. In service of this, you can check in with your mood occasionally. If it’s good, know that you’re generalizing that to interpret the world in a more positive light. If your mood is a bit below the average, know that you’re generalizing your perspective in a negative light. Knowledge is power. Knowledge allows you to shift your interpretations of life. Have an awesome day.

Road and Mountain Biking

No, most definitely no on the mountain biking today. You’ll be pleased to know that Syncline, at least, will likely return to action late this afternoon or tomorrow. Then we’ll see three dry days, perhaps bringing some other trails back into the fold. In road biking news, Wednesday looks fantastic: light wind and temps in the upper 50’s. East wind will impact your rides on Thursday and Friday, but still, temps in the upper 50’s will make up for that!
