We’ll see .3” WV between noon and 4pm, for 3-4” of light, fluffy snow. We’ll see another inch or so of snow in the late afternoon before the sky clears. Wind Tuesday will be SW 10 early, rising to SW 25 by noon and W 30-35 in the late afternoon and evening.

See below for details.
Wednesday will be overcast right from the start with precip starting around 7am and continuing all the way through Thursday morning. The snow level Wednesday will start off around 3000′, but warmer air moves in by the afternoon, sending the snow level up to 6500′. We’ll see the snow level fall to 4000′ by Thursday morning, and there’s a chance of some snow at the tail end of this system. So. We’ll see .5-1” WV before it warms up, for 3-7” of dense, wet snow. Then we’ll see 1.5-2.5” of rain. Then we’ll see .5” WV that may fall as mixed precip, or may just fall as rain, giving us a couple inches of wet snow early Thursday morning. Maybe. Wind on Wednesday will be SW 5-10 early, rapidly increasing to SW 40 by noon and staying there, or stronger, all the way through Thursday morning.
Thursday looks windy with the snow level between 5000′ and 6000′ with .4” or so WV, but that’s a long ways out to be making predictions!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Your Monday wind looks like W 10-13 through much of the Gorge this morning. In the afternoon, we’ll see the wind pick up to W 15-18 from Steven’s Locks to Mosier with W 22-25 from Rowena eastward to Arlington. Tuesday looks like less than 10mph west wind all day long. Wednesday starts off light and variable. The wind picks up to very gusty E 30-50 midday as a beastly upper level low crawls up the coast. The wind will back off to light and variable late in the day. Thursday looks like less than 10mph west wind.
Random Morning Thoughts
One of the great things about being up early in the morning is the rainbows. See, because the weather comes in from the west and the sun rises in the east, the best chance of rainbows on a rainy day is often in the morning – there’s often clear sky to the east, allowing the sun to shine through to the rain in the west.
In addition, especially this time of year, the arc of the rainbow will change as the day goes on. The higher the sun climbs in the sky, the lower the rainbow sits. In other words, an early-morning rainbow, due to the low sun angle at sunrise, climbs high in the sky. A midday rainbow, on the other hand, may sit low to the ground. For example, I had a rainbow chasing me along I-84 yesterday or perhaps the day before, and the rainbow was very low to the ground. Your viewing location will have some impact on this, but as a general rule, it’s correct.
Now, not everyone wants to get up at 4am. But on those days where’s there’s a 99% chance of rainbows, it’s worth it to see a rainbow that climbs so high in the sky you can only capture it in your imagination. Plus, there’s nothing like a rainbow combined with a colorful sunrise. So… think about setting your alarm the next time there’s a shot at a sunrise rainbow. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Gorge Weather Forecast
I wasn’t interested in going outside to check the weather this morning because my feet were already chilly. Imagine how delighted I was to see that it’s now light enough that I can just look out the window. It’s mostly cloudy, and shall remain mostly cloudy with a few sprinkles for a while, and then it will become partly cloudy with sunshine this afternoon. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 50’s this afternoon. Moderate west wind in the afternoon. 99% chance of rainbows (there were rainbows on Sunday). 6:46am update: There is now a 100% chance of rainbows today.
Tuesday may start off with icy roads, so be careful out there. We’ll see low clouds or partly cloudy sky early, followed by light rain or sprinkles after noon through sunset. Temps will be in the mid or lower 30’s early and in the upper 40’s in the afternoon. Light west wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Wednesday looking f’ing wet all day long all the way through Thursday morning. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. Light wind, east wind, light wind. 8% chance of rainbows due to lack of sunshine.

Road and Mountain Biking
If you want to go mountain biking, I highly recommend you do it today, at Syncline, the only real option right now, because rain returns tomorrow afternoon and downpour returns on Wednesday. You’ll find nice road biking today too, if a little bit on the breezy side. Tomorrow looks quite chilly early, and then rainy later, so it won’t be the best day for biking. One other thing: the Gorge 400 out of Wyeth is reportedly clear of trees. Enjoy. It’s a beautiful trail run and is also open to bikes.
