Mt. Hood did receive 4-6” of new snow last night before the temp warmed up, but all that new snow turned to muck with the arrival of rain last night. You can expect a showery day on Mt. Hood today, with heavier precip after 1pm. The snow level today will be 6500′ early, dropping to 3000′ at the tail end of this evening’s cold front. After that system moves through, we might see some orographic showers. So, we’ll see about .6” water value (WV) with the cold front, most of which will fall as rain. Call it 1-3” of new snow. Then we’ll see .1-.2” WV in orographic snowfall, for 1-2” of new. Wind will be SW 30-35 early, rising to SW 40 this afternoon and evening. Continued after the chart.

See below for details.
Thursday looks partly cloudy and showery, but it’s hard to tell right now if those will be rain or snow showers. I’m leaning towards rain, but I may be leaning the wrong way. Or we may just see mixed precip, followed by sprinkles. Anyway, the snow level will be 5000′-6000′ all day. No significant accumulation of precipitation. Wind will be SW 20-25 early, dropping to SW 15-20 in the afternoon and evening.
As of right now, it looks like we’ll see periods of rain, heavy at times, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. More details to come as the models settle on solutions.

Random Morning Thoughts
Anticipating a colorful sunrise, I wandered outside my house barefoot, wearing my pajamas. The sunrise, as anticipated, was off the charts, so I hung out in my parking lot for a while staring at the sky. Being a 21st century human, I took a photo and uploaded it to Facebook.
Playing with my phone, of course, distracted me from the loveliness above, so I got that sharing piece over as quickly as possible.
Once I took the time to really look at the sunrise, I realized it wasn’t static. The colors were changing, sure, but the clouds were also moving from north to south. Had I not been totally engrossed with the sunrise, letting it wash over me, I would have missed the movement.
When we really stop to engage with something fully, we pick up details we would have missed if our entire attention wasn’t engaged. This goes for sunrises, sunsets, sporting activities, and time spent with other humans. If we’re not totally there, we may miss the trailside wildflowers, the happiness radiating from a friend, or the subtle flavors and textures of the food we’re eating.
If we’re fully engaged, we experience life on a variety of levels. The more levels, the more fascinating and fulfilling and full life becomes. Take the time to stop and really engage with the things you’re engaging with. Your life will be enriched and enlivened. Have an awesome day.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
Still too wet in Post. Syncline is your best bet today, but you’ll want to do it before 2pm, because the westerlies will be pretty strong this afternoon. Same goes for the rods: get it early or you’ll get it when it’s windy and wet.
