Mt. Hood picked up a couple inches of snow on Sunday night, and you know what they say: any snow is good snow! The day started off cloudy, but should clear up midday and turn cloudy again in the afternoon with precip starting up around 10pm. The snow level today will be 2500′ early, rising to 4000′ when the precip hits and then quickly rising to 6500′. We’re expecting about .5” water value (WV) with this system. Given the snow level changes, we’ll probably see 1-3” of heavy, wet snow, followed by rain. That should make for extremely sticky riding conditions on Tuesday. Wind on Monday will be W 30 early, turning to SW 10-15 in the afternoon and picking up to SW 20 overnight. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast
Sounds like some people had a nice day out at Threemile yesterday! Today won’t be anywhere close to that windy. As a matter of fact, for our Leap Day Monday, we’ll have light and variable wind all day in the Gorge. Tuesday starts off with E 30-35 at Rooster Rock. As a weather system moves in during the afternoon, the wind will switch to W 23-26 from Stevenson to Arlington. Unfortunately, that westerly switch probably won’t happen until after 4pm, leaving you with very little daylight. Wednesday starts off with lingering west wind at 20-23, but that fades quickly, becoming E 30-35 at Rooster in the afternoon.
Random Morning Thoughts
I’m pretty sure I’ve talked before about how our past experiences and perceptions of reality shape our current experience of reality. In the real world, past results are, to some extent, indicative of future performance, but only because we shape the world to agree with our perceptions.
Say, for example, that our past experience has been that people we want to like us (perhaps our parents, partners, or peers) end up rejecting us. We’ll have an unconscious expectation that the pattern will repeat when we make ourselves vulnerable to people we admire. Because of this, we’ll be nervous and uncomfortable and awkward. Emitting this energy, and acting weird, we increase the chances of being disliked and rejected. And the cycle amplifies.
Because that’s the cycle, and because we’re in it, we can’t see it. The only way to see it is to step outside it. And that can be accomplished through awareness and insight, not through logical understanding.
You can try this out. Pick some repetitive pattern in your world. Let yourself feel the emotions that come along with it. Don’t think or try to figure it out. Just feel. Relax. Hang out there and see what else arises, memories, other feelings, etc. You might not get insight right away, but if you put enough energy into the process, you’ll eventually come to some sort of awareness. And that will set you free from the cycle, or at least help you work through what’s causing the mess in the first place. Your body, in other words, contains the wisdom to set you free. Play with it. It’s fun, like skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking. Have an awesome day!

Gorge Weather Forecast
I went outside to look at the sky, and the first thing I noticed was how not-dark it was for this early in the morning. How nice it is to have some daylight back! The sky, however, was cloudy. I think we’ll see periods of sun and periods of high overcast today, maybe a few sprinkles early, with clouds in the evening and rain after 10pm. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Light wind. 17% chance of rainbows.
Tuesday starts off partly cloudy and turns cloudy by noon. Rain, heavy at times, starts up around 4pm, continuing overnight. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. East wind early, moderate west wind late. 6% chance of rainbows.
Wednesday may see some scattered showers in the morning, but it will be sunny for much of the day with rain returning after 7pm. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Moderate west wind early, east wind late. 29% chance of rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
I guarantee that Post Canyon is too wet to ride right now after yesterday’s day-long rain event. Syncline, given how windy it was yesterday, might actually be just fine. Whoopdee, no. Roads, yes, and extra nice with light wind and limited precipitation today.
