It’s mostly clear this morning on Mt. Hood, although there are a few scattered showers showing up on the radar image. Expect a mostly clear day with high clouds in the afternoon. There’s a chance of some light snowfall overnight. The snow level today will be less than 1000′ all day. It’s possible we’ll see 1-2” of snow tonight, but that’s not a guarantee. Wind will be NW 20 in the morning, becoming W 15 afternoon and light and variable after midnight. Continued after the chart.

Wednesday morning brings a more potent weather system. Precip starts around 7am and continues through Thursday morning. The snow level will be at the surface early, rising to 4000′ or a bit higher late afternoon and dropping to 2000′ by Thursday morning. We’ll see .6-.9” WV between 7am and 4pm, for 4-7” of new snow. It’s likely the snow will get heavy toward the end of this system as temps warm up into the upper 20’s at 5000′. The next round of snowfall overnight brings .5-.7” WV by Thursday morning, for 5-7” of fluffy new snow.
Thursday brings a few more inches of snow. As of right now, Friday looks dry, Saturday looks snowy, and Sunday looks dry. Also, I should say here that I’m going to take some days off this weekend. I have several very long days of trainings stacked up, and I’m not sure I’m going to be able to find the time to forecast. We shall see.

Random Morning Thoughts
I’m thinking more about appreciation this morning. Yesterday I was talking about how important it is to ask for recognition and support form others. Bowen family systems theory says that fully differentiated people (you know, strong sense of self, etc.) don’t need recognition and support from others to feel good about themselves. In fact, the article I read last night implies that something is actually wrong with you if you need positive feedback from others to feel 100% good.
That may be the case for a few people, but I would argue that, as social beings, we not only want, but need acceptance and support from others. We’re intimately connected through our minds, and we do not exist in isolation. If we stay in an emotional black hole, never expressing our support for each other, then we don’t rise to our potential.
Sorry, Bowen, but I think happiness requires positivity and support and just a little enmeshment for ideal outcomes. Given that hypothesis, I also hypothesize that it’s important to ask others for support. Receiving support and admiration is not a one-way street. Gratitude arises both in the recipient and in the speaker; a happy field of interconnection rises out of this process.
The idea of total differentiation and complete reliance on self for fulfillment of emotional needs is ridiculous. We are interconnected. We do need each other to be our emotional best selves. And it’s okay to ask for a little love when you need it. You’ll make the other person feel awesome too. Have an awesome day.

Gorge Weather Forecast
I just wandered outside to check the weather, and I noticed a couple of things: 1) my feet became chilly. 2) the sky was very dark. 3) there was one star peeking out. From this I conclude that it’s mostly cloudy this morning. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early (even though it feels colder, that’s the actual temp), and in the low 40’s this afternoon. We’ll see mostly cloudy sky this morning, sun midday, and high clouds this evening with a chance of flurries or sprinkles overnight. Moderate west wind. 1% chance of rainbows.
Tomorrow starts off with Nothing, and models suggest partly cloudy sky above the Nothing, so it’s double clouds for the Gorge. Temps will be right around freezing early and in the low 40’s this afternoon. We’ll see a bit of precip overnight. Given the east wind and the borderline temps, we could be looking at 1-2” of snow, especially above 500′. East wind. No rainbows.
Wednesday morning looks very, very tricky. Temps will be right at freezing early, according to both temp and sounding models, but temps will warm up into the mid 40’s late in the day (maybe?). Precip starts up around 7am and doesn’t stop until Thursday morning. It’s probably going to start off as snow, continuing to snow through noon. Wet snow, but snow nonetheless, probably 1-3” at river level. Expect 3-5” in the upper valleys, switching to rain in the early afternoon. Light wind. 23% chance of rainbows.
Thursday looks partly cloudy and showery with a 99% chance of rainbows.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
I went road a ride bike ride yesterday, and I swear They made the roads harder. Marcroft didn’t seem to think the roads were harder, but I sure did. Note to self: never, ever get out of cycling shape again. It was a dry day yesterday, and it wasn’t below freezing last night, so Syncline should be in good shape today. Ride it if you have time. Make the time to ride it if you’re lacking time.
