Thursday. 9/12. Gorge wind. Events. Heat.

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – nobody but you pays me to do this. So why is it here? This forecast started as a way for me to find better wind in the summer and better snow in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you too (almost) every day. Donate to keep it going! Make a $12 or larger donation by clicking on the sun and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Sometimes I even have prizes to give away from the email list sponsors. Thank you again for your support! Enjoy the snow and wind and sun!

Random Morning Thoughts
Last night was a big night for me at the Caddyshack Classic. Thanks to 2nd Wind for that. So I’m sitting here at 10 Speed writing this forecast. Late.

Wind forecast

The models last night sure were wrong, calling for light east wind all day today. Yeah, the gradient is at .07 WEST as of 8am. The models still say we’ll see east wind midday, but I think they’re full of… well… shit. Let’s call this 14-17 all day from Stevenson to Mosier, maybe picking up to 17-20 late in the afternoon from Stevenson to Mosier.

Tomorrow brings another round of west wind for your river-riding pleasure, as a few more marine clouds meander into the Portland metro area. Call the wind through the Gorge 14-17 early and 21-24 later. Saturday sees a pesky upper level low off the coast, giving us light west wind. But that low seeks a better life inland sometime Sunday, probably late in the day. When that happens, we’ll see the wind jump to gusty 25-28, first at Stevenson, then at Hood River, and then all the way out to Arlington.

Stuff happening tonight

Tonight is the weekly Post n’ Pint bike ride at Dirty Fingers. If you’re not afraid of riding in the heat, show up for a special shuttle ride with free Kona Bikes demos at 5pm. Or better yet, show up at any time during the day and take out a Kona bike demo for free.

Stuff happening soon, but not tonight

Speaking of bikes, this weekend is the DoubleCross cyclocross race, happening at Hood River High School on Saturday and Sunday. There’s also a trail work party on the 44 Road Saturday, as Ranger Jimmy T completes the SuperConnector trail. If you’d like to be a part of this, mark your calendar, and meet at Dirty Fingers at 8:30 or Little John at 9 on Saturday. Last up in bike news this weekend is the Cascade to Crown ride at Cascade Locks on Sunday.

For you pedestrians, there’s a running race benefiting the Mosier School at the Twin Tunnels on Sunday, and the Bridge of the Gods is open for pedestrians only between 10 and l1 am on Sunday.

Have an awesome day today!
