Good morning!
Yesterday ended up being a spectacular bluebird day on Mt. Hood. Today won’t be nearly as incredible, but it won’t be chaos either. We’ll have clear to partly cloudy to high overcast skies today with the possibility of a few snowflakes, but no accumulation. The freezing level this morning, around 1500’, rises to 4000’ by 4pm, 5500’ by 7pm, and drops back to 3000’ overnight. Wind today will be W 20-25 this morning, going to SW 15-20 this afternoon and SW 20-30 tonight.
Wednesday is our last chance for fresh snow for a while. The snow level will be at 3000’ at 4am, dropping to 2000’ by 7am, 1500’ by 10am and 500’ by 1pm, slowly rising through the evening and overnight. We’ll see .3”-.4” water value between 4am and 1pm, for 3-5” of new snow. Wind will be SW 30-35 early, swinging to W 30-35 by 7am, WNW 30+ by 10am, NW 25+ by 1pm and N 20 by 7pm.
Thursday marks the start of a period of high pressure over the Northwest. We’ll see clear skies with periods of high cloudiness during the day. The temp between sea level and 8000’ will be pretty much the same, just below freezing, at 4am, and then the free air freezing level rises to 8000’ or so by 10am with an inversion in the valleys. Wind will be light and variable in the morning, picking up to E 10-15 by mid-morning and swinging to SE 10-15 in the afternoon.
Friday sees the freezing level around 8500’ with light S wind in the morning, swinging to SW in the afternoon. We’ll likely see high clouds on Friday.
The extended forecast through next weekend shows dry, sunny weather on Mt. Hood interspersed with periods of high cloudiness through the middle of next week. That of course, is subject to change, but it looks like the weekend will be sunny on Mt. Hood.
For you windsurfers and kiters, you’ll have west wind on Wednesday at 23-26 in the eastern Gorge, and east wind at 23-26 Thursday afternoon in the western Gorge.
