Mt. Hood Snow Forecast – 5000′

Good morning!

It’s a mild morning up here on Mt. Hood, but that’s going to change pretty quickly. Right now the freezing level is around 6000’, but it will drop to 3500’ by 9am, 1500’ by 1pm and right down near sea level by 4pm. The cold front causing this will bring snow and wind. We’ll see snow start by noon, with 3-4” by 4pm. Wind will be W 30-40 early, picking up to W 50-55 by 1pm and WNW 50-60 by 4pm, backing off to W 30-35 by 10pm. Yes, it’s going to snow in the Gorge too.

We’ll get another 3-4” of snow by 4am Sunday, with the snow level at 0-500’. We’ll have snow flurries mixed with sunbreaks all day for another 3-4” of snow with W wind at 20-25 all day.

Monday looks a lot like Sunday, with snow flurries and sunbreaks. We’ll have 4-6” of snow during the day, with accumulation becoming heavier after 4pm. The snow level will be at 0-500’ with WNW wind at 30-40 all day.

By Tuesday morning, we’ll have another 7-9” of new snow, with another 7-9” falling by 4pm. The freezing level will be 0-500’. Wind will be W 30-40 early, picking up to WSW 50-55 by 1pm. We’ll see very heavy snowfall, becoming warmer, wetter snow, overnight, for significant accumulation with rising snow levels. This is when we could see a big mess in the Gorge… =)

It looks like the snow will switch to rain sometime mid-morning Wednesday. Same goes for Thursday. If the current forecast holds, a powerful system will swing over Mt. Hood Friday morning, making for crazy exciting wind, varying precip, and all sorts of neat weather variety.

Have a great day today!
